Frank is just like you. Just like me. Only bigger. George Schlatter, a friend
Lets get one thing straight. There cant be another Frank. These days, you dont operate on that plane and get away with it. Was he in the Mob? Was he an informer? Did he ruin Ava Gardner, sleep with Marilyn, throw a plate against a restaurant wall just because they cooked the pasta too long? Come on, al dente!
Act like that today and youd be TMZd faster than you can tweet Alec Baldwin. But thats just behavior. Flip on your TV and youll understand the other reason nobody can match Sinatra. In this age of the media megatropolis, of over-saturated, over-exposed, over-everything, competition is just too fierce for one figure to so dominate the spotlight. If Milton Berle were starting out now, he wouldnt get a 30-year deal from NBC. Hed be cross-dressing on Comedy Central to beat out Guy Fieri on a Wednesday night.
With Franks 100th birthday approaching, along with an NSO Pops concert devoted to his music, Ive been talking Sinatra over the past week

Frank’s greatness was his phrasing - so unique and it helped to connect to his audience.
Focusing on if he sang off key or not is missing the core attribute of Sinatra.
The only singer Sinatra would admit to being influenced by was Billie Holiday, who also had a very limited range, but an amazing style.
I thought Frank Sinatra’s performance in The Manchurian Candidate was superb. Oscar quality work.
Lawrence Harvey and Angela Landsbury also turned in
fine performances.
He was the original Detective John McClane.
I’ve always liked Dean Martin better.
“You can ACT LIKE A MAN!”
AMEN,AMEN and AMEN!!!
Better singer, better actor, funny as hell and infinitely cooler. Dean was the King of Cool...and I mean cooler than anyone in showbiz, music, whatever!!
totally agree... and I might add that I don’t give a hoot what kind of man he was... he wasn’t my brother , friend or father..
I listen to his records at least once each week... just amazing... and I never grow tired of it. early Sinatra.. that’s where it’s at.
Magnificent photo...when giants walked the earth....the Golden 70’s.
I’ll Do things My Way....
They don’t make ‘em like that anymore. When men were men and stars were stars.
Times have changed.
And NOT for the better.
Like him or hate him, Frank Sinatra was an American institution.
I don’t think he was Sicilian.
His breathing technique made him
Frank once save my life.
I was standing in front of a Casino in Vegas, I was a bartender there, when this hot blonde walks by, and I whistle. Meanwhile two guys come by and start beating on me.
Frank Sinatra comes by the scene and says “Alright boys thats enough!”.
I’m eternally grateful.
ping
I couldn’t agree more!
