AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Wearing a brown plaid coat worn by John Wayne in 1945s Flame of Barbary Coast, Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has declared a day in honor of the quintessential screen cowboy.
An avid collector of movie memorabilia, Patrick wore the coat as he presided over the Senate Tuesday.
He declared it John Wayne Day in Texas to mark the Hollywood legends 108th birthday and named the actor an honorary Texan.

Boy, that makes me feel old.
TCM forgot about him.
I lean toward She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.
My dad was a shorter version. Miss them both.
The Quiet Man

Every movie he ever made is a favorite of mine. Partial to McLintok if I had to choose one.
The Shootist, which was also his final film.
My father was a near dead ringer for him too. My mother was Italian. My father was from Tennessee. They met while he was on leave from the Navy.
...should have added, I was born and raised in New York City. And still live there today.
Not sure why he should be an honorary Texan except for his portrayal of Davy Crockett (a Tennessean) in the Alamo movie.
"What do ya mean you don't know how to swim?
Here, let me show ya ..."
John Wayne’s favorite was “Red River” and it was probably the critics favorite too. Red River was just a little too intense for me.
Personally I like “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”.
BTW, my middle name is Morrison. The reason being Daddy was very fond of his Maternal Grandmother whose maiden name was Morrison.
Winterset, Iowa, just opened a large John Wayne Museum next to his birthplace.

His family moved to Southern California when he was four. He was a surfer and athlete.
Where did you get that pic of my father disciplining my mother???

One of John Wayne’s grandsons is a Catholic priest.
One of my favorites for sure too. Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
BTW, anyone ever see the J.Stewart, H.Fonda film, Firecreek? If you liked 'Liberty Valance', you'll surely love that one also.
