Eight years ago, Alice gave a thorough and detailed account of events that are nearly identical to those outlined in the police report that became public this week:
"In January, the whole family went to Chicago and taped Oprah Winfrey show... As you may have noticed, that show never aired and it never will," Alice posted before delivering the bombshell that The Oprah Winfrey Show staffers had been told that Josh had molested five minor girls. Alice then wrote, "Yes, this is the truth ... They have been investigated to some length..."
On the subject of Josh's parents Jim Bob, 49 and Michelle, 48, Alice wrote "They have lied and lied about their son to protect him... In my eyes he is a CHILD MOLESTOR. HE SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE HOME."

I’d be in jail.
Sure seems like this story is not going away anytime soon.
I love it when drama queens like you offer moral clarity about drama....
Obviously that is irony. I hate it because it is misrepresentations and lies defending how great you are.
What ever happened to God here? I’m just about the only one to even mention His name and His capacities.
And I get accused of the malice. Figures.
Good point... the bible itself warns about spreading a matter.
Someone is out to get Christian hide here.
You know what, had they got justice the first time this would not be happening.
child molesters NEVER humble themselves. = not biblical.
Otherwise Christ’s sacrifice on cross is for nothing.
I agree. I understand the victim’s trauma. I am one.
What do the Duggars do for income, other than the TV show? They seem well heeled.
Okay....he apologized, repented...that’s good but what about the victims. Are they really okay?
This is beyond sick. I consider the parents enablers AND CPS would have gone right in and removed the kids from the home if this came out. Lots of cover-ups to go all the way around.
Unless addressed by the specific love of God, sin never goes away. It only lurks, ready to spring in the future at Satan’s bidding.
I am not all that sanguine about the “Gothard” approach myself (it even has its own warning mnemonic, “got hard”) and if in the big picture this can get people returning to the grace of God, the agonies will not have been in vain.
The magazine which broke this, and got a copy of the police report before the family had it destroyed, said one of the two oldest daughters was the only one who was not molested but it did not specify which of the two.
So if I don’t worry about Josh and leave him to God and to the courts, then you think that is a reason to attack my sympathy for the girls. That’s nasty indeed. And hardly biblical.
Can we assume that your entire theology flows from that mold?
Also, since there is (strictly according to you) a problem with expressing concerns for the girls while not worrying about the man...then does that not reciprocatingly aply to you for expressing forgiveness towards the man but expressing concern (and attacking any who do) for the girls?
I believe they thought they were pillars in the community and homeschoolers as well as those with large families could look up to them.
It is possible they could have boarded Josh at a place (or in a relatives family situation) that would be safer, if this continued to be a problem. With nobody that he could molest, perhaps the Lord could have worked the situation out.
Anyhow, the root problem here is sin and the thing that keeps letting sin grow in lives is a lack of grace.
I think that is a reason to suspect a misbalance.
And not everyone is blessed to a situation where they can fill a particular role. Their own wills certainly can’t achieve this.
When “people” (AR law on sex crimes now is age 14 treated as adult from what I quickly read) commit a crime and it is reported, investigated, charged, it is the STATE vs. the Charged because “the State” has an interest. Civil court is the redress for the Victim vs the Perp.
From what I read, (it wasn’t handled appropriately by the ADULTS involved), but since I am not part of their family, I have NO IDEA what kind of counseling those victims got (if any). There are many certified, licensed by the State (credentialed, educated) therapists, psychologist that do counsel from a religious perspective if desired.
Ever child that came into contact with Josh (without any supervision or warning) was put into RISK by the ADULTS. Whether or not Josh is not longer an “offender” that wasn’t the Duggar’s call to put their children and others at potential risk.
Thank you for your clear insightful post. If they had been liberals, atheists, Muslims, Kennedys, etc this would not be in the news.
I’m sad about everyone who suffered here, which includes all Christians who now have to share the limelight with this mishandled problem.
That’s biblical ain’t it?
If you tithe the mint but not the dill, you still haven’t tithed....
