I never watched the show. I know very little of it only what my best friend tells me of it. She loved it because she grew up in a big family and it reminded her of her family.
I was told TLC helped pay for their new house minus the kitchen.
Figuring what “Here comes Honey Boo Boo” made, I figure they made a lot.
Mom and dad only thought of their next paycheck. Like I keep saying there will be more to this story. This is just the tip of the iceberg. These people are not the image they projected.
“Bill Gothard is a cult leader, plain and simple. He had to step down due to allegations of sexual abuse by 34 young women. But the religion he set up is very heavy on legalism and on control of women. He specified how they could dress, how long they could wear their hair, etc. And a heavy emphasis is put on modesty-clothes from neck to feet-to avoid tempting the men.
You know, sort of like Islam.”
Is what I’ve been saying about this bunch since this story broke. They are like muslims in their treatment of the victims. I’m surprised they did not stone the girls to death.
Actual therapy instead of a talking tour with the family’s many pedophile friends (cop, minister).
Not searching for publicity to fund our lifestyle.
Removing the offender for a long time.
And when, years later, the offender made incest jokes in public to torture his victims, remove him from the home altogether.
Patriot Babe, same thing happened to me with a cousin. I fought him off and it never happened again. I put it behind me. I frequently see him with no problem. The only person I told was my now husband and only once.
He is a mature adult now and I’m sure the behavior is behind him too.
I’ve heard that about the train engineer, also. Not sure how that could have a bearing on him speeding, though. I’m wondering if he was trying to commit suicide on the train.
I’m sure too with my cousin. I watched, saw, and stayed with them through out the years and I notice they were not the same when they were teenager and children. I also think what made it easy was that fact I kept a distance from them. They would molest me when my parents and I would visit my aunt and uncle. Having that distance helped.
That is why I feel how the Duggars parents did was right. To put Josh in prison, how do we know he won’t get molested and just makes the situation worse. I truly believe that Children and Teens can be rehabilitated but once they reach adult it becomes more difficult.
from reports I’ve read (that are no garantee to be true) it’s been reported the high possibility he was taking a selfie.
The last info I have on this situation is officials wanted his cell-phone record(s).
we shall see
“What do the Duggars do for income, other than the TV show? They seem well heeled”
Seems to me the wife mentioned some time ago the Duggars had storage rental property.
I have been trying to remember when it was first discussed in the homesschool group I belonged to. A few of the members were followers of Gothard and ATI, they were adamant that it could not be true. I think the earliest I heard it was about 2006 or 2007. I live in NC but the rumor was out there as far afield and as early as that, so it was known, this is not a surprise to many.
To the left, the Duggars represented Christian values which have to be demonized at all cost.
I think the point here that many are making is that the Duggars and Bill Gothard do NOT in any shape manner or form represent Christian values.
Of course those people are without sin, especially sexual sin, so their kids obviously would never do that.
You have special knowledge of this? Is this a sin the Lord can’t /won’t forgive?
Misplacing your keys, locking yourself out of your car, and showing up for a doctor's appointment on the wrong day are mistakes.
Repeated and ongoing sexual contact with your sisters, one of which is barely more than a toddler, are knowing and pathological acts.
That you are mixing the two is disturbing. And no, I'm not perfect, which is both the predictable response by his defenders and entirely irrelevant.
