Alzheimer’s may turn out to be largely avoidable, and possible to arrest, and perhaps reverse.
Get the added sugar and grains out of the diet. Add fats, esp. DHA & EPA Omega 3 (not ALA, which you get enough of). Ditch the PUFA grain oils. Either Perlmutter’s “Brain Maker” (2015) or Davis’ “Wheat Belly Total Health” (2014) are a great place to start.
Even Perlmutter is starting to refer to Alz as Diabetes Type 3, which he heretofore was reluctant to do.
Yes, the USDA’s MyPlateOfMetabolicSyndrome diet, high carb, high grain, low fat, has been a 40 year experiment that has failed massively (and was based on no science at all, but lots of politics & money concerns).

My mom was diagnosed several years ago with onset Alzheimer’s Disease...
Trying to ascertain what to do. She lives in Virginia, on the family property owned since the mid-1700s. My family reside in Alabama. I have been researching options regarding her care choices. Although my husband and I want her to come live with us and have access to many in-home care opportunities, it is an extremely difficult decision. Especially with the realization that Mama wants to stay home. Hopefully, I can locate at-home care services in that area. So far, I have not been able to find any professional organizations or independent providers.
If by chance anyone has advice, I am open to hearing it.
