FULL TITLE: 19 Kids and Counting taken off the air by TLC in wake of revelation that son Josh molested young girls and his parents Jim Bob and Michelle covered it up
19 Kids and Counting has been taken off the air.
The show has not been officially cancelled at this time, but has been removed from the network's lineup.
The move comes one day after Josh Duggar, the oldest son of the family featured on the program, admitted that he molested young girls when he was a teenager.
Making matters worse, it was also revealed that his parents worked to cover up this scandal.

Does that mean I should report crimes to my church instead of the police? Thanks for the heads up. I’ll let my pastor know. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.
Does that sound like what Paul said?
Perhaps you have bad ears?
There you go with another strawman!
It was members of the kingdom he addressed, thus a excellent parallel with the topic of this thread.
.
The mother creeps me out...It drives me crazy when a grown woman speaks in a little girl’s voice and I think she has crazy eyes.
Satanists didn’t molest those girls.
Don’t get me wrong, Satanists shouldn’t molest children either. No one should. That’s the f*cking point here.
What do you know about the officer? Let me tell you what you either don’t know or are leaving out:
The officer is a friend of the family; hand picked to talk to the young man. He’s in prison now, spending 60 years for a bunch of child pornography charges.
Between their child pornography police friend, their pedophile son, and their minister, how come they know so many sex abusers so well?
And just so you understand, when the young man was 17, the Oprah show was sent messages that he had been harming children. The Oprah show informed the non-pedophile members of the police department and wanted nothing more to do with them. You have serious issues when Oprah Winfrey is the voice of reason.
The parents lawyered up and waited for the statute of limitations to kick in.
And lets be 100% clear: the son was 14 years old 13 years ago. He’s 27 years old now. One of his victims is still underage, 13 years later. This wasn’t experimenting by teens.
That child was four or so, as many have noted. That isn’t fixed by a month or two in therapy. You don’t allow that back in your home, ever.
“Would you feel the same about the incidents if it were a gay family it happened in?”
Apples and oranges. What is a “gay family” exactly? I assume you mean the caregivers of the children are homosexual. It was not the father who committed this assault. A child being raised by homosexuals is sexual abuse of a child regardless of whether molestation, assault, or rape happens. Are you suggesting a homosexual couple is capable of giving the guidance, direction, and correction this father gave?
Or do you mean if the assault were homosexual? Coincidentally, I have a close relative who has had severe, suicidal ideation which is probably tied to his being assaulted by an unrelated teenager when he was a child. I also am dealing with an in-law who was raped by an older teenage cousin who cannot be held to account because of the law. Nothing has been done to bring correction as far as I know. So, in answer to your question, I would want it addressed the same way if possible. Confront it and require counseling. If there is no remorse and change of behavior, then the penalty of the law is what everyone involved needs. Same thing with the Duggar family. Only there was remorse. There was change. And many people on both the left and supposedly right still would like to see this man’s life destroyed. Those who wish such things on someone God has forgiven are bringing judgment on themselves. They will experience the same things in their own families.
“In the case where a familys lifestyle requires females to be ‘submissive’”
Stop right there. I am familiar with both what the Bible says on this subject and what the Duggar family advocates (even though I have never seen their show).
They and the Bible teach that everyone has to submit to authority. And they and the Bible teach that submitting to authority does not mean doing evil or tolerating evil. Further, nowhere does the Bible have a general command for women and girls to be submissive to men. Children are to obey their parents. Wives are to submit to THEIR OWN husbands.
There are a lot of negative (and Satanic) associations with the term “submit” which come from false beliefs and rebellion against God and His ways. EVERYONE is required to submit to authority, and authority comes from God. Even Christ Himself completely submitted to His Father’s authority. And God has bound Himself to His own word.
This principle is essential to a free society because we are a nation that is supposed to be governed by the rule of law rather than rule by men. Authority is not contradictory to freedom. It is essential to it. Legitimate authority is tyrannical and is not abusive. Solomon used this principle in a custody dispute to determine the true mother of an infant.
But our society has rejected God’s authority as revealed in the Bible. In it place we have set up ethics and morals that suit us. We like rules that are easy to keep, like don’t have sex with toddlers. But we tolerate what God calls abominations and replace His laws with feel-good lies like “consenting adults”. Guess what. Just because people are old enough to understand sex does not mean that it is okay to engage in perversion. A person is not automatically a good person because he or she does not rob banks or molest children.
The idea of submitting being somehow negative, harmful, weak, or foolish is an idea that comes the Devil. The Bible says that rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft.
“That one of the girls snuck a note out in a loaned book indicates she did not feel comfortable handling it ‘within the family.’”
You have a fairly impressive ability to read minds. Perhaps the truth as to whether you are right or wrong about this will come out as the girls involved become old enough to speak out.
Personally, if I found myself siding with Oprah and all the left-wingers who have been trying to shut down the Duggar show, I would have to re-examine my position and question my own judgment.
“I have a good friend who I have known for forty years, since childhood, who was molested by her older brother. Her father covered it up. She is not particularly interested in how either of them are doing with it.”
You think the actions this father took are comparable to your friend’s experience? I think the fact that this man has owned up to what he did, acknowledged it happened, took full responsibility for it, did not hide it from the girl he married before he married her, all indicate that how the father handled it was not “covering it up”. Maybe the father should print up t-shirts that say my oldest son molested his younger sisters and wear that everywhere he goes so he isn’t covering it up. Or maybe he should just admit he is a failure as a father and turn all of his children over to CPS where they can be raised by a nice homosexual couple. Obviously, the government authorities on children are much more trustworthy and educated than this ultra-right-wing-tea-party dad. /s
“I have zero sympathy for people who terrorize children.”
And if you could be God for a day I am sure you could do a much better job of fixing these moral evils than Him. Enough with this nasty forgiveness idea (unless the sins are little ones like all of mine are). /s
No one asked for your sympathy. This man has paid an awful price for what he did. And he will continue to pay. That will not undo his actions. That will not heal the girls involved. But neither will damning him to hell. That’s what “no sympathy” really means. And if God decides not to send him to hell, then you need to decide if you can accept God’s righteousness as being greater than your own.
“I dont have sympathy for people who do this kind of crap to kids.”
Again, you don’t need to. The 14 year-old boy did not sin against you. He sinned against God and these girls. They are the ones who were harmed. They are the ones who can forgive or not forgive.
Christ said if we do not forgive those who sin against us, His Heavenly Father will not forgive us either. Do you need forgiveness from God? Is there someone you have not forgiven?
I think anyone molesting children is bad.
Well, he didn’t take it very seriously now, did he?
Luke 17:2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.
Why is it interesting?
Do you think perverts should be celebrated, fawned over and enriched?
I believe it is you who may want to do some rethinking. Judging by the comments on these threads on FR, it is your opinion that is in the minority. By far.
Yawn."
Oh, absolutely. What's the big deal?
As I was told on another thread, it's normal boy behavior in a large family where there's not much privacy.
Because everyone knows that it's perfectly innocent and routine when a teenaged boy creeps into his sisters' bedrooms at night to fondle their vaginas. And it's a laugh when he puts his hand up the skirt of a 5 year-old while he's reading her a book...on his lap.
Do I have to put sarc tags on all of that? Apparently I do, because it seems that's how some folks here think.
The trooper involved was a friend of the family that just talked to Duggar. Also, that same trooper went to prison for child pornography!
You are a very sick individual for not acknowledging that 14 year olds know the difference between right and wrong when it comes to molesting their own siblings. 14 year olds are charged as adults in society many times. Get some perspective here!
“Why is it interesting?”
It is interesting because I expect better from a conservative group than to gloat over the damage to this family with self-righteous hypocrisy.
“Do you think perverts should be celebrated, fawned over and enriched?”
You must be confusing the Duggars with the Kardashians.
No one is celebrating what he did. He is going to have to live with the shame of what he did. It is out there for everyone to see.
According to the Bible, what he did is an abomination worthy of death. But by the same standard, so is homosexual sex. And so is adultery.
There are people on this forum who love to boast how they would go all Charles Bronson if this happened to a member of their family. The reality is, as the Bible says, “thou that judgest doest the same things”.
So maybe you haven’t committed incest, assault, or homosexual acts. Have you only had monogamous sexual relations to a woman you were married to your whole life? If not, you are an adulterer deserving the same fate as you wish on this man. Be careful what you wish for.
Agreed the parents hatched a plan to be clever by half. By keeping this under wraps to continue revenues from the show. But CYA by phony reporting (to a friend who happened to be law enforecement, surely to bury this). And treatment ... Nothing more to than doubling down and getting perv out of the house for a time. So as to claim him in rehab. There u have it...the law and rehab, as the cover story in even the shiz his the fan. Well that didn’t work for even 30 minutes
“We may hate them for different reasons. “
Maybe for common core. But for the Duggars family there are a lot of people on this forum who had “problems” with them before this came out.
A lot of people here have insulted them for their rules on dating.
A lot of people here have criticized them for the modesty of the women and girls.
A lot of people here have mocked their large family which is the epitome of pro-life.
A lot of people here accused the father of being it for the money (because as we know capitalism and free markets are a bad thing and trying to make money is the root of all evil). /s
There are people on this forum who hated the Duggars already along with all of the leftists who wanted their show taken off the air.
The hatred is NOT for different reasons as you assert. It is because these are conservative, pro-family, Christians who have made a positive impact on the culture.
We have pervasive perversion in our culture, and how this father dealt with it in his family is a model for how it should be dealt with in society. He ought to be the person in charge of safety of children in our public schools rather than the known pedophile Obama put in charge.
(Kevin Jennings is the founder of GLSEN and promoted children reading about children being sexually assaulted in ways worse than what happened in the Duggar home as if these acts were a positive thing. See “Queer 13: Lesbian and Gay Writers Recall Seventh Grade” and “Passages of Pride”. These books are promoted by the left and reveal that they really have no problem with the sexual assault under discussion. They are actually promoting this behavior openly. And what they really want is to destroy any positive role model for traditional Christianity and conservatism.)
I’ll go on record as supporting them in the middle of this horrible episode that is nothing more than the left re-victimizing the victims in order to destroy a conservative, Christian family. I may have never watched the show, but I have read enough and heard enough from the father to have complete confidence in his leadership. He is not perfect, but he is a role model that conservatives here should be listening to for answers rather than vilifying.
Time will prove me right on this. It may not be possible for the victims of this abuse to speak out now because at least one is still a minor apparently. But I expect they will all eventually have a voice in this. And if they say it was not handled appropriately and criminal punishment should have been given, then I will apologize to everyone here and admit I was wrong. I wonder if the supposed majority who must be right because they are in the majority will do the same if the victims express they have found healing, forgiveness and believe the issue was fully resolved.
