I remember when Mercedes and BMWs were tasteful, elegant cars. They just LOOKED rich. Today, they are so avant-garde, they no longer look elegant at all.
Computers and wind tunnels took over design. Worse still, car companies were headed by Engineers and they had design people telling the bean counters what is what. Now the bean counters and 25 year old CPAs are calling all the shots.
The other thing is, men used to do all the car buying and men like good looking cars. Women just want safe affordable cars with lots of cubby storage for stuff. Looks are way down the list for women when car shopping. So since women are now equal partners in car buying, looks have fallen in priority.
Then somebody comes along and builds a terrific looking car and it sells like pancakes. But they don’t learn from it.
