To thwart a bear attack, make yourself look bigger and scarier.
This is how you escape from a bear attack.
Ralph Perrson was walking with his wife and dog in the woods when he noticed his dog was barking differently, the Swedish outlet The Local reported. Suddenly a large Eurasian brown bear ran out of the woods and charged at him.
Fortunately for Perrson, he knew bears are much more scared of us than we are of them. Standing his ground, he raised his arms and let out a primal yell. The very startled bear spun right around and ran back into the woods.

Like black bears in the US, Eurasian brown bears avoid humans and rarely attack unless provoked or startled, which this one probably was. There have only been two fatal attacks in Sweden in the past century.

..the last known sighting of Timothy Treadwell.
Treadwell got along fine with dozens of bears. It was only one or maybe two that ate him. So, call that a “qualified success.”
Absolutely!
With a grizzly, a .45 is scarcely sufficient unless the shot is very luckily placed.
There are numerous cases of .357 hits merely angering grizzlies, and a .44 magnum having 3 times the muzzle energy of the .45 ACP is the bare minimum to have in your hand if you want to fend off a grizzly.
The Grizzly (Ursus arctos horribilus) is a subspecies of the Eurasian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) and for all intents and purposes the same animal. There are several subspecies, but basically the only thing that differentiates them is the region that they’re found in.
According to Josh Earnest, it’s not something to set your head on fire.
Not to mention it’s hard to shoot accurately when you’re shitting your pants.
You apparently have never come across a Grizzly in the tundra... All of the linemen carry .45s and .44s for a reason.
If that bear was really attacking, he’d be running a whole lot faster than that....that looked like more of a playful hop.
Too true. That and tigers. Is there an animal more handsome than a tiger? Just don't try and pet one.
The “right way” is to be 1 mile away. Forget about this way.
You lie down with grizzly bears, you can expect to get eaten.
That bear almost had a Swedish meatball....
Better hope the wind is blowing the right way. A face full of that stuff would probably have the person begging the bear to put him out of his misery.
Polar bears as well. They are basically grizzly bears which have evolved to adapt to the arctic.
As they used to say, the only cub which isn't dangerous is the Chicago Cubs . . . and they are actually pretty good this year.
My method for not getting ate by a bear is 100% effective.
I simply stay out of bear country.
I actually grew up in northern British Columbia and have probably seen more bears than you have telephone poles.
Good advice.
You just might have. I have done time in Alaska and the norther territories in Washington and a bit in Canada. Seen plenty of Kodiaks but never had to draw on them.
