I lost some peripherals upgrading from W98 to XP and from XP to Win 7. I also lost many small Windows applications/programs because they were incompatible with Win7.
The problems with some software programs is that they were not longer updated and they have no equivalents on the market.
I did manage to tweak a few XP programs to run under Win7.

Not adopting X until I have drivers for all the devices Im currently using on Windows 7. Buying new equipment is a non-starter. All my devices purchased for Win7 are working under Windows TP. The last of my device drive issues went away in January.
