Former LSU offensive lineman La'el Collins paused to keep control of his emotions at a news conference to announce his signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.
Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones had an even harder time holding back tears while sitting next to a projected first-round pick who didn't get selected because his name surfaced in the investigation of the shooting death of a pregnant woman he knew in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems this article is kind of confusing about Collins’ fate.
In the article, the Baton Rouge police said that he had cooperated completely and had taken a paternity test that said he was not the father. So the police said he was no longer a person of interest.
Then at the end of the article it says he did not have clearance from the police.
So which is it? It sure sounds like the police are no longer interested in him, so what’s the problem?
Sounds like his only problem was living near the victim.
It was reported that he also took (and passed) a lie detector test, and that his phone GPS shows him to have been in New Orleans, and he has text messages showing where he was planning to attend an NBA game there (I think it was NBA) with some friends that was happening at the time she was killed. However, they won’t clear him for this reason:

Take a chill pill, FRiend.
So what is your evidence he was a thug? All reports are to the contrary. He wasn’t even in the freaking city when his ex was killed. He wasn’t the father of her unborn kid. Basically, his draft chances were tanked because he once lived in the same town as and dated the victim. That’s it.
But yeah, I’m sure he’s a thug. After all, you said he was.
Well said.
