A substitute teacher at an elementary school in Phoenix is under investigation and facing possible assault charges after slamming a student to the ground after calling him a “nigger.”
The entire affair at Bernard Black Elementary was caught on students’ cell-phone cameras, and that footage was later acquired by a local Fox news station: (At site)
In the video, the teacher, Brett Russell, is seen resisting an eighth-grade student who appears to be pushing up against him, before abruptly grabbing the boy and throwing him to the ground, hard. It’s unclear what started the altercation or why Russell used such sudden force, although the boy has apparently already admitted to calling him a “nigger” during the confrontation.
The boy’s mother says she wants the teacher sent to prison.
“I don’t care what words come out of a child’s mouth, no one should ever put their hands on a child like that,” she told Fox 10. “I want to press charges against him. I want him arrested.”
You do everything to protect your kids, and you don’t send them to school thinking they are going to get hurt,” she said. “Thank God my son was okay. He could have hit his head, he could have gotten a concussion.”
Thus far, however, the police are still investigating the matter, and the Roosevelt School District has refused to comment on whether Russell will remain employed by them.

She should try to locate his FATHER, if she knows who he is, and let him raise the kid correctly. So he doesn’t wind-up as a Dead Thug!

The teacher didn’t use that much force against the student. It was an acceptable level, imo, to diffuse the student’s anger.

If it had been a white teacher responding like that to being called "cracka" or other pejorative anti-white term by a black student, he would have been immediately fired, the DOJ would have been investigating, riots would start, and he would never work in a school again.
Teacher overreacted. Much less force should have been used.

I don’t. Not at this point. The headline is misleading and provocative. The student was making physical contact with the teacher, which is much more relevant. I’d at least want to hear the techer’s side of the story.

The kid didn’t even get hurt. Shoving a kid to the ground like that, unless he had advanced osteoporosis, is not going to hurt him.
Public servants have no right slamming citizens. Whether strongly or weekly. But in this case I might cut the teacher a little slack. He did probably succeed in teaching the little jerkoff rugrat a valuable life lesson — to treat people with respect or at least basic courtesy Calling someone a nigger just doesn’t cut it.

Bingo! This student already assaulted the teacher by pushing into him. If anything, I thought the teacher rolled the student to the ground. Hardy what one could call “slamming” the kid and far better then simply pushing the student backward.
I absolutely disagree that anything he said justified physical force.
The physical contact justified some force.
But unless there’s a knee to the groin or something that shows up on another video I can’t go for the slam and/or takedown

Hard to tell from the choppy video, but it looks like self-defense to me.
30 years ago, during my brief time as a high school teacher, I was advised that under NO circumstances was I permitted to “lay hands on” a student for any reason whatsoever. I sought clarification: yes, indeed ... if the “little child” (high school, remember) assaulted me, I was not permitted and might be prosecuted for any action I might have taken. We were expected to let the poor dears kill us.
