I was surprised when I read Dr Smith actor Jonathan Harris wasnt a flaming homo as he seemed. Interestingly, Harris grew up in New York City with a strong Yiddish background and heavy Bronx accent. He forced himself to adopt that British accent to appear more cultured.
Since Harris played a voice-only role in the original Battlestar Galactica series, they paid homage to him by using his life story as the backstory for the traitor Baltar in the reimagined Showtime version. That Baltar hid the fact that he came from a lowly farming planet and got rid of his poor agrarian accent. On one episode, he even muttered "Oh, the pain... the pain..."

Back to LIS, after the initial dark episodes, its better viewed as an adventure/comedy. When they got up to the ep where folks were turned into vegetables, you know even the cast is thinking this is messed up. You know... since up-thread it shows that MeTV has Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea following LIS, that show followed a similar pattern. The first season tried to follow the seriousness of the movie, but later seasons became the rubber monster of the week.

That scream of his, while funny, was also irritating as hell...

Trekkie is just sort of a catch-all description by non-fans for fans. It comes off sounding childish, so it’s viewed as perhaps better descriptive for kid fans or just casual ones. Trekker is more serious/hard core.

Interesting... I don’t think I’ve ever seen the pilot show.
I remember in the movie he was a bad dude.

Even ST:TOS was suffering by the third season (which the network didn’t want to give them, let alone a second). But it had more to do with a drastically curtailed budget that hampered what they could film. If they had been as well-funded as they were in the first season, one wonders how much better the quality of the eps would’ve been.

Wow, I absolutely do NOT remember that... I do remember some black and white episodes, but...
Another of my favorite shows was “Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea”... which is also on MeTV and H&I.
Great time to be a little kid, back then. “Time Tunnel”... “Land of the Giants” ... “Wild Wild West”... Loved them all.
