WASHINGTON Taking U.S. and Russian missiles off high alert could keep a possible cyberattack from starting a nuclear war, a former commander of U.S. nuclear forces says, but neither country appears willing to increase the lead-time to prepare the weapons for launch.
Retired Gen. James Cartwright said in an interview that de-alerting nuclear arsenals could foil hackers by reducing the chance of firing a weapon in response to a false warning of attack.
Essentially adding a longer fuse can be done without eroding the weapons deterrent value, said Cartwright, who headed Strategic Command from 2004 to 2007 and was vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before retiring in 2011.

it’ll be like a really bad, low-budget interpretation of the Terminator premise.
Shall .. we .. play .. a .. game?
Unless it has changed drastically, the physical system and non-electronic procedures would preclude this from actually happening. Then again, it’s a Navy admiral and BHO buttboy who is pushing this.
"Because of the threat of - ah - cyberterrorism... that we're all... so aware of, I have ordered the Air Force to stand down all nuclear delivery systems, effective - ah - effective immediately. We are doing this because - ah - we feel that it's... umm... that it's the right thing to do."
I take that back, AF General, not Navy Admiral but the rest applies.
He got this idea while watching “War Games” on Netflix.
Seems like they would have a delivery system that is invulnerable to cyber attacks.
I think they use ipads to lauch them now
Cause the same systems used to launch missiles is hooked up to the internet so that they can play candy crush??
Importantly: “In June 2013, it was made known (by unspecified legal sources) that he had been placed under a U.S. Justice Department investigation, in its early stages, having to do with an alleged leak of classified information regarding the Stuxnet virus, designed to target and (at least temporarily) disable Iranian nuclear centrifuges, as part of Operation Olympic Games.”
Obama would say he is doing this because of Republicans, conservatives, Christians, white privilege and finally, to combat global warming. He would then use his pen and phone because he has a 2pm tee time to meet.
He makes sense, but either way it doesn’t affect me, as long as it can be proven that it was accidental.
I already have insurance covering accidental Total Global Thermonuclear War.
WOPR !!!!!
Hey you, get out of there.
The big office boss behind a desk says, “I like everything just the way it is now. Don’t mess up my global investments. When the SHTF because of the policies pushed by the important constituents like me, that’s okay. I have a nice place on an island to go to.”
It’s the likes of him, who are making the big nuclear exchange much more likely in the very near future. They have our foreign enemies convinced that we’re too feminized to defense ourselves and that we’ll do anything to continue to the flow of debt/revenues to our plutocrats.
Our foreign enemies operate on the bully mentality. The more you shrink, the more they build up with the determination to destroy your country. Our business, political and academic domestic enemies control the politicians with their anti-defense putsch while indulging in their Walter Mitty fantasies about the end of the world.
Fire control systems are completely isolated from the Internet. Never trust the older half of my Baby Boomer generation who are in administrative positions.
The funny thing is, that I almost didn’t get it, because I didn’t know it existed.
The agent signed me up over the phone and we were completely finished, when he was just taking down the information to mail me the policy from out of state.
When I gave him my address, he exclaimed, California! when I said yes, I live here, he suddenly told me that for another $1000.00, he would throw in the ‘accidental nuclear war’ clause.
When I asked him why he hadn’t mentioned it before, he said something about, “well, I didn’t realize that you lived in the land of nuts and berries”, so evidently he knew a lot about our agriculture here, and knew that we were smarter than most Americans, in fact I mentioned that to him, and he said “yeah, that’s it, you people in California are smarter than the rest of us”, then he caught an error in his addition and pointed out that the policy was actually $1500.00 instead of $1000.00, thank God he caught the error.
Anyway, I’ve got that going for me.
lmao
“It says here ‘Hit any key to launch’”.
