What do you mean “akin to”, the State Guard doesn’t do Armor, and Rangers, and jet fighters, and Airborne Infantry and combat.
It is just the “state guard”, mostly for dealing with disasters and such, but they are not Army troops.
Akin in the sense that the website says they are one of three legs of State Military in Texas (two of which can be called up by the feds).

Most are former U.S. military. Many are also former members of A&M’s Corps of Cadets.
