A new CBS series will be testing the compassion and values of a dozen struggling families this summer, by presenting them with briefcases containing more than $100,000, and giving them an option to either keep it all, or share it with someone who might need it more.
The Briefcase will feature hard-working American families, who are feeling the impacts of financial setbacks, when they are presented with a briefcase containing $101,000.
Every week, two families will have 72 hours to learn details about each others taxing circumstances and make the difficult decision of what to do with the cash. The catch: they will be unaware that the other family has received the same amount of dough with the same instructions.
The Briefcase is an eye-opening look into what matters most in peoples lives, taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride with a shocking ending each week, series creator Dave Broome said in a statement. Ive been incredibly impressed by just how generous Americans are, even with shrinking paychecks and rising debt, when theres little left to give.
Were testing the human spirit, Broome told Entertainment Weekly. These days, with paychecks shrinking, we wanted to tackle human values in a way in a big and loud way.
The producer told the industry news site one episode will feature a right wing, Texas Christian conservative, God-loving, gun-toting clan. They slowly learn that the other family in the equation is a married lesbian couple who want to use the money to have a baby via intrauterine insemination.
Its like, Congratulations, youve just won the lottery, but heres a mirror that comes with it, Broome said. Ultimately it has nothing to do with the money. It has everything to do with who they are.
'The Briefcase' will debut May 27 on CBS.

I would take the money and set up a family foundation.
More D.A. tv. It simply numbs people turn it off.
I immediately thought, there are going to be a bunch of poor families about to run afoul of the IRS.
Sigh! And they used to call it the Tiffany Network...
and appoint myself the CEO like Bubba & Hellary
ATTENTION ALL POLICE OFFICERS, this is your chance to make that BIG SCORE with regards to Civil Asset Forfeiture, follow them, pull them over, and CONFISCATE THE CASH
Amen, share like the Clintons and be sure to demand more of other people’s money while your at it.
ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS!
Don’t you think we should give *more* than a hundred thousand dollars? A hundred thousand dollars isn’t exactly a lot of money these days. Virtucon alone makes over 9 billion dollars a year.
Just another sad attempt to get people to behave selfishly in front of whoever watches this garbage...it’s almost an American tradition at this point.
Arlington Steward: I have an offer to make. If you push the button, two things will happen. First, someone, somewhere in the world, whom you don't know, will die. Second, you will receive a payment of one million dollars. You have 24 hours...
Martin Teague: What happens once you've completed your tests?
Arlington Steward: I submit the data to my employers, and then your fate rests in their hands. One cannot say they are not without a bizarre sense of humor. Look at me.
Martin Teague: I wouldn't know sir, of whom it is that you speak. Your employers remain a mystery to us all.
Arlington Steward: I like mystery. Don't you?
Martin Teague: How do we pass the test?
Arlington Steward: Isn't it obvious? Simply don't press the button. If enough of you don't, the test will conclude. But there will be more tests to come.
More trash TV.
Who on earth would watch this?

” The catch: they will be unaware that the other family has received the same amount of dough with the same instructions.”
This is a pretty common scenario in game theory. The results should be pretty predictable.
One million dollars, tax free. All yours. No giving away.
I'd share it -- in my will.
exactly, rural folks will give more than city folks. :)
More like the Tiffany, Amber, and Crystal Network.
plus Destiny, Mercedes, and Porsche over on Big Brother 21...
