I am a student of history, and consider myself fairly well read on the subject. No expert by any means, so I ask the rest of you, particularly those who are older and/or wiser: are there not strange contrasts to the Cultural Revolution imposed by Mao and the race riots of Obama's tenure?
Acknowledging some differences, too, I still think there may be some eerie parallels.
I invite your input.
Parallel this with the plan of the current occupant of the Oval Office to "transform" America. He, too, wants to control this--while denigrating nearly everyone else. Decimate the middle class, allow a few upper 1%ers to survive (for now) while he floods the nation with more poor and welfare dependent citizens.
Mao's problem was that some of the young radicals on his side (or ostensibly on his side) went a bit too far too fast and began to destroy some of the universities, local governments, businesses, etc....and Mao had to call in the military to stop them.
Well, look at what is happening now: businesses and business owners, educational institutions that don't tow the liberal line, governors who insist on reigning in liberal power, are targeted for destruction by young radicals via social media or by unions via harassment, etc.
Scott Walker faced it, Sarah Palin faced it, Memories Pizza, Sweet Cakes bakery, and even entertainers or fellow travelers (the guy who started Mozilla, I forget his name), the cities of Ferguson and Baltimore and Sanford are attacked by radical leftists.
Now armed forces haven't been called out in all of these cases (except in the cases of Ferguson and Baltimore) but the parallel really really seems close.
Hitler also wanted a classless society.
And Obama's urban 'youths' and homosexuals, whom he or his successors will discard after they've outlived their usefulness.
Both Iron Fist of tyrannical communism.
Hillary’s demand that Christians give up their morality is a case on point.
Obama’s 8 year plan. Great Leap Backward.
All totalitarians throughout history can all be painted with the same brush and color.
Nowhere close.
The riots of the 60s had more in common.
I think it is homegrown in the pulpits of the Nation of Islam and the Black Liberation Theology. Denounce and work to destroy the culture you were born in because there has been no change since the 60’s. Hear it often enough and it’s true. There is no desire to co-exit with the white culture as most blacks have done since the civil rights movement began, the black culture is to replace it completely.
Have you read “Wild Swans, Three Daughters of China” by Jung Chang? That will take you through three generations of the Cultural Revolution. I personally think we aren’t anywhere close. But having read that book, I am certainly more aware of where there are parallels. This is one of the best books I have ever read for understanding the utter depravity of communist leaders, and the herd mentality that is so easily tapped into. I think it should be on everyone’s “must read” list.
Mao was ideological.
Obama is racial.
mao killed millions of his countrymen.
Up to now obammy has only killed our military men and a few diplomats.
In either case, it's an attempt to effect a political revolution through social manipulation, pitting different groups against each other and fostering animosity between them, blaming it on the "olds".
I think the goal is to destroy any cohesion among the populace that they had by virtue of traditional common ground and leaves them in a leaderless disarray, ripe for an iron fist to step in and fill the power vacuum.
