Tomorrow (April 27) is U.S. Grant's birthday. The Civil War Trust has a short video about his life.

I visited Grants tomb a few years ago in New York City, it was very bizzare. One security guard reading the paper and there he is Grant next to his wife in the middle both in separate stone coffins/tombs whatever you call them. It was just me and the security guard in the whole place. It was pretty sad I felt, especially being that he’s buried in such a disgustingly leftist city

Grant is one of my favorites. He went from being a clerk in his father’s store to being one of the most famous and popular men in the world, in the span of a few years. He was very talented, but with close to zero ambition.

He did very little campaigning for the presidency, yet won easily. He wrote a short autobiography as he was dying of throat cancer, published by Mark Twain. The book was intended to provide income for his wife after he was gone. Grant was also a small man. His wife estimated that he weighed 135 when he was president.

Good vid...thanks for posting. Would have been even better at 8 or maybe 12 minutes, but I suppose they have to target today’s youth with limited attention spans.

Grant’s campaign to capture Vicksburg is probably the most brilliant field campaign in US history.
