NEW YORK (AP) — When Amanda Berry's toddler daughter had night terrors and started screaming and running around the room, Berry couldn't always get to her — because she was chained and couldn't move that far.
Big, heavy chains were a regular part of Berry's life for years as she, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were held captive in a Cleveland home by Ariel Castro before finally escaping in 2013. So were repeated rapes and other abuse.

I'm glad these ladies are getting their lives back to semi-normal.
These women probably need the potential income from a book or inspirational speaking fees. However they should be careful not to stay locked into that mindset of being a helpless victim. If one of my relatives has this happen to her, I would not encourage her to base a new career on retelling and emotionally reliving that time of torture and depravity. Long term, that cannot be healthy for the mind of spirit. The seduction of celebrity or notoriety is a very potent lure for many people.
I expect someday, there will be a movie made about what these girls endured while captives.
There was a rumor at the time that Castro didn’t ‘hang himself’ in an act of despair or turmoil. Rather he was involved in Erotic Asphyxiation, or purposely cutting off oxygen as a way to achieve personal pleasure, when he ‘miscalculated’ the durability of the knots. We’ll never know, not that it matters.
I hate to be the pessimist, but can one really get over the utterly depraved acts night after night for what, ten years, rapes, beatings, God knows what else.
Many women who are raped once have trouble recovering. I pray I am wrong.
Good point. Although it might be cathartic too. Hope they are getting spiritual and psychological help.

You’re right; too many people take a bad experience and then become celebrities with it, then become an emotional/psychological version of an alcoholic, drowning themselves in the past suffering until it becomes REAL suffering, mainly self imposed.
In the Jef Dalmer case, the guards all took a smoke break and left connecting doors from the weight room unlocked. Dalmer never made it out of the shower.
Too bad, so sad, but far better then paying taxes to keep him away from innocent people.

There already has been a movie made, based on (one of the victims) Michelle Knight’s book....It’s called “Cleveland Abduction”, I believe....
