Among the usual platitudes designed to garner applause in his Saturday afternoon New Hampshire Republican leadership summit speech, Donald Trump included a line railing against cutting Social Security and Medicare. There was no applause from the fiscally conservative crowd for that one. Go figure.
“You look at what is going with the various things that our country is doing and then you hear politicians, and all you hear is all talk, no action,” the mogul said in his speech before the state GOP’s “First in the Nation” summit.
“I am actually disappointed with a lot of the Republican politicians,” he continued, “I am a conservative Republican.” He then rattled off a series of policy ideas of which he either approves or disproves:
The Affordable Care Act, “which is a disaster,” he said, “has to be repealed and replaced.” That line drew applause.
“Whether it is we are going to cut Social Security, because that’s what they are saying,” he continued. “Every Republican wants to do a big number on Social Security, they want to do it on Medicare, they want to do it on Medicaid. And we can’t do that. And it’s not fair to the people that have been paying in for years and now all of the sudden they want to be cut.”
No applause there. Know your audience, man.
“The Republicans and the Democrats don’t know how to bring jobs back to our country,” he added.
But in classic tone-deaf Trump fashion, he followed up that remark with a rallying cry for his own potential presidency: “If i run and if I win, I will bring jobs back. Believe me. We will bring them back from china, where they are ripping us like you have never seen.”
We’d reach out for comment, but we already know Trump will say he had the audience on their feet and was the best speaker at this year’s summit.
Trump was never relevant. As for cutting SS and Medicare, sure, why not?
Donald Trump spends a lot of his time trying to blow low-cost MSM attention into his helium-filled empire.
When I hear this, my question is how is he going to pay for maintaining current benefit levels. The money that was "paid in" is gone. It was paid to our parents and grandparents and great-grandparents who are dead. There is no one to "get it back" from. Its a freakin Ponzi Scheme, meaning that what was "paid in" went to someone else.
Politically Trump might have a point.
But in reality entitlements are bankrupting the country.
Because I want my freakin’ money back! That is why.
It is a contract.
Because a lot of people paid in their entire lives and depend on it, that’s why.
They need to quit paying drug addicts for “disabilities” and who knows what other kind of fraud in the system. If we quit giving away money to the gimmedats it would make a huge difference.
I’m not hearing anything I don’t like here.
Entitlements are Forever.
The biggest risk with Trump is he will go independent with a personally well-financed campaign.
SocSec and Medicare represent a true dilemma: a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives.
They are financially unsustainable.
And proposals for reform are toxic in elections.
Trump will have a book come out next year and proclaim, again, others are better suited for the presidency but, hjs voice shaped the agenda.
As for cutting SS or raising the age, why not?

Anyone who talks about cutting or not cutting social security is, in his or her own way, shouting “SQUIRREL!”
No risk there at all.
Trump is no Perot.
He only spends other peoples dough.
His bankruptcies have been corporate and not personal.
What he meant is that the elderly paid into SS and they want their money. Soldiers came back from war and get on disability. There are people with reasons to get these things. Trump things he can do something else to offset the need to make cuts or drastic draconian cuts. He thinks there are other solutions that can be done than just immediately cut off people. That is my interpretation of his comments.
The American people can’t handle the truth regarding entitlement programs.

However if the choice came down to Jeb vs Hillary vs the Donald, I would give serious consideration to voting for Trump

That could happen.
How ironic that Hillary would be the THIRD Clinton plurality win for POTUS.
And she wouldn’t have to spend a penny of her $2.5 billion war chest to do it.
If they would quit taking it out of our paychecks then I’d be fine with getting rid to the entitlement.
We’re forced into this rotten deal we might as well at least get the pittance they give back. I think Galveston has an investment plan instead of social security that works out WAYYY better than what the kleptomaniacs in D.C. provide. That would be the better option.

The Court ruled that no such contract exists, and that there is no contractual right to receive Social Security payments.
Just sayin’....
