A controversial new book argues that the triumph of feminism has meant men are now second-class citizens.
George Clooney, Benedict Cumberbatch and Eddie Redmayne may have all taken the plunge recently but they are a diminishing band of brothers, for the number of men marrying in the West has plunged in recent decades.
The state of matrimony is not just ailing. It is dying out faster than a mobile phone battery.
According to the Office for National Statistics, marriage in Britain is at its lowest level since 1895. In 2011, there were just 286,634 ceremonies a 41 per cent free fall from 1972, when 480,285 couples tied the knot.
For an army of women, Mr Right is simply not there, no matter how hard they look for him. And the reason? When it comes to marriage, men are on strike.
Why? Because the rewards are far less than they used to be, while the cost and dangers it presents are far greater.
Ultimately, men know theres a good chance theyll lose their friends, their respect, their space, their sex life, their money and if it all goes wrong their family, says Dr Helen Smith, a lecturer at the University of Tennessee and author of Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood And The American Dream.

Oh RLY??? Even though I stayed home, I definitely contributed plenty to the marriage.
Oh then there are the men who think only in terms of dollars and cents and then are surprised when she rises up and actually wants something out of the marriage.

True. No-fault divorce has a lot to do with this, too.

You're right too. I know women today are most times just fishwives, but NOT ALL. I'm not. I believe in listening and walking together, figuratively and literally. What I've been getting is crapped on. I suppose I'm not pretty enough for these Brad Pitts. (yeah, RIGHT) because they choose the skanks. Fine. And I waited and waited and then just gave up! After all, I'm bald right now anyway and have been going through all this chemo stuff.
So I said to myself "resign yourself to being alone for the rest of your life" which to me would be a really lonely life, if anyone was made to be in a relationship, it was me. And then I found someone, or rather, he found me.
Someone that wants who I am, who wants to be respected and admired and treated like a MAN. and last night he sent me this:

Oh my gosh, someone that understands and wants me, just like i am. Bald and all! Swooning

Who would want to marry a lib?

If a man wants to go out with me, he can jump through hoops to even get that much. Oh I’m pleasant enough company and like you, get dressed up, I treat my date nice and respectfully. But I had one man I “met” on a dating site. We talked, it was all good. We made it to the phone, all good still. But then it came out, he didn’t have a place of his own (apt where he had a roommate) and he’d sold his truck to get an operation. ....hmmmm. In other words, he didn’t have anything. And in his 60s....Excuse me, what does he have to offer me? I don’t have treasure, but I’ve started with virtually nothing 7 years ago and although I got a hand up, I had so little to begin with, and I’ve supported myself, got a car (paid for) a place to live (almost paid for) and grown children on their own. And he laughed and said “oh I guess you’ll have to do the driving!!” HA! We never spoke again. Btw, he was a Joel Osteen devotee’ It was all gonna fall out of the sky.

“I feel sorry for decent males AND females looking for a mate these days.”
I agree with you on that! Sadly, it is likely that much of the frustration of the “good ones” in our society is due to the fact that they are few, precious and rare. As a result, they don’t cross paths often enough....

I could argue. Men choose women with attitude problems and then are shocked, shocked! when it doesn’t work out.

That's what it takes, as well as not just finding the right person, but in being the right person!
 God bless you both.

Hey, if the chaps won’t settle down, just re-tie those little straps behind your legs... that should keep them from flapping around while you ride.

There’s just something about sharing a common culture with your life’s partner. Most men here on this thread, especially one I could name (puke!) want to FIND the right person without BEING the right person. It works both ways. And marriage isn’t 50-50. It’s 100-100. Both have to give it their all.
This crap of no woman ever being good enough just isn’t gonna cut it. Yeah, you can escape the clutches of some feminist, but also you never know the joys of meeting of the minds, of finding a soul mate.

I’ve seen that happen and it’s horrible. But when my husband filed for divorce, he was treated very well by the (female!) judge. Very well.
