Why were the Star Wars series movies released in Episodes 4,5,6....then 1,2,3?

I don’t know why the movies were released “out of order”? I still think these sequels aren’t going to measure up to the originals, but there’s $$$$$$$$$$ to be made.
Yoda: The scene where he dies is sad, I always get misty eyed when I see it.
