Employees say a Brandon Walmart near Valrico gave them little notice before closing for six months.
When I drove into the parking lot, it was full. I knew something was not right, said a Walmart employee who asked that News Channel 8 not identify him. We have had plumbing problems over the last few years.
The store closed Monday at 6 p.m. because of the ongoing plumbing issues. The employee News Channel 8 talked with said a sewage backup is the likely culprit.
The issues require extensive repairs, Walmart spokesman Amanda Hennenberg said in a statement. The store is located at 1208 E. Brandon Blvd.
Walmart will reopen the store as soon as all the plumbing issues are resolved, Hennenberg said. The closure affects 400 full and part-time employees. Some are being offered jobs at other stores. Others will receive paychecks for two months and then severance payments will kick in.
I don’t think that the Brandon one is.
You could build several Walmarts from scratch in 6 months.
“Correct me if Im wrong, but these seem to all be stores in/near Ghetto areas?”
The Pico Rivera store I’ve been to and it’s an OK neighborhood. If your argument is the “ghetto” area, then they should have easily closed the Crenshaw location.
You know, the same Crenshaw always known for those Trayvon Martin and Ferguson “let’s hunt white people in cars” Blvd?
but these seem to all be stores in/near Ghetto areas?”
I doubt seriously if that applies to either of the stores that were closed in Texas. Livingston only has a population of 5 to 6 thousand people and most of them Caucasian. Understand from news report this evening that employees could work at another Wal-Mart if a position was available but nearest one is 25-30 miles away.
Closing because of plumbing issues does seem a bit strange but I know that a couple of them were reported to be having a strange odor. Who knows.
He is in talllll shit!
Union problems?

Video on the page shows workers holding a sign about 5 hours notice of layoffs.
530 Pico Rivera Walmart employees laid off after sudden closure of supercenter
Bobadilla said he didnt learn of the stores closure until 1:10 p.m. and later spoke to Eddie Iny, a representative with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
He said they were notified that there was an involuntary layoff of all employees at the store, effective immediately, Bobadilla said. Thats very concerning for us because a lot of those employees are city residents.
Garcia said all of the employees who wish to return to the Pico Rivera store will have to reapply for their positions.
Walmart = Mart Law
Rumor is that if you call to ask about the Midland Texas store hours, they would say it has been closed for good.
Any freepers close to that area?
Two comments from the article below - OK Wal-Mart closed for good also.

KOTV - The News On 6 failed to yet do some basic fact checks.

Employee. Just foud out and it is not temporary. It is indefinite
Specs and “as built” are two differnt things.
Brandon store is not in a Ghetto area...
A growing hispanic area...
It's right on Hwy 60, a very high traffic main street...
There is aa lot of competition in area area...Publix, Winn Dixie, several large Latino markets and a Aldi...
Not sure the plumbing problem is a bogus story...The stores sits on piece of property that is at an odd angle....it would not surprise me if the land is shifting and causing issues
Installation of Safe Rooms?
Yes. ChinaMart
Agree about the Jade Helm possibility, though.
Brandon/Valrico FL is hardly ghetto. Mostly white southern Baptists and lotsa of 4x4’s
