A man defended his home from four armed burglars by hacking pieces out of them with a Samurai sword.

Dias Costa, 49, slashed the face, arms, and necks of the raiders, who fled the property in a getaway car while dripping with blood.

The burglary took place late at night in the Cerro Norte neighbourhood of Cordoba, in central Argentina - and all of the men are currently in intensive care.

I didn't include any of the pics. They're fairly nasty. See link.

We haven’t had a sword ping in a while... And when we do, it’s a doozy.

Does that mean that you can bring a knife (or sword) to a gunfight and win?! ... :-) ...

The katana is peculiarly well-suited for fighting multiple attackers.

It never runs out of ammo or jams.
Unless it gets stuck in a bone.

Yes of course, but you have to be good with it, which means lots of practice.

Since I was a small kid I have liked knives, swords, darts, spears etc.

I have several swords but none of them are good quality. I do have maybe a dozen machetes and most of them are excellent, even some of the cheaper ones. IMO the Ontario machetes made for the U.S. military are the best I have found and that includes some very expensive ones.

An Ontario machete will clear ground faster than anything below a bush hog..

For some reason I have always had an innate fear of edged weapons.

Right beside my bed right now is a Winchester Defender with 7 shots of buck. A Browning Hi-Power loaded with silvertips., a Hungarian .380, a regular club axe and a Fiscars hatchet. All of these are within easy reach except the axe and shotgun.

Sliced quite a bit but certainly not "hacked to pieces".

And there were a couple twits in the comment section who wanted the homeowner punished - one even wanted manslaughter which is strange since no one was actually slaughtered. Most of the rest were bemoaning British and other Euro laws against self defense and mentioning that if it happened in the US the burglars would have been shot by the home owners. Yes, foreigners, we all have machine guns and will shoot anyone who looks at our houses.

If the victim in this incident had been a properly trained swordsman, his attackers wouldn’t have needed to go to the hospital.

I noticed the same thing: the headline didn't match how I read the text. Since this is the Daily Mail, I was wondering if this use of "hacked to pieces" is some British thing, and I went to the article comments mainly to see if anyone wrote a comment on it (so far, I haven't seen any).

Rough observation:
A gun is a linear / 1-dimensional damage weapon.
A sword is a planar / 2-dimensional damage weapon.

Guns tend to win because of their range advantage.
Be very afraid of being in range of a sword.

He might have been a little lax with the sword maintenance.
