She gave us an assignment -- review a movie. I chose "Thelma and Louise". It seemed like her kind of movie.
I explained in my paper that both Thelma and Louise had good lives. They were stable, they had family and friends -- and they were unhappy. They didn't like living in a situation where men made decisions and women mostly went along with it. So, Thelma and Louise started making their own decisions. They started thinking for themselves. They started new lives, where they had control.
And everything they did blew up in their faces from start to finish. One bad move after another, until they finally had the brilliant idea to drive off a cliff.
My conclusion was that feminism was a terrible path for women and for society.
Have to give the professor some credit -- she gave me a B+ (but there was a lot of angry commenting in red throughout).
I will never forget the High School book report I had to give on The Catcher in the Rye where I described Holden Caulfield as a Manic Depressant who should seek mental help.
