That could be a bad (corrupted, improperly installed, etc.) device driver.

You might try forcing the computer to boot into "Safe Mode" in which most drivers are not loaded, and you may be able to regain control that way. Your OS Version indicates it's Windows 7, which is generally quite stable, so I would try Safe Mode first (unless you already have).

Some other FReepers may have additional suggestions for debugging this.
