SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert gave his stamp of approval Monday to a law that brings back the firing squad in the only state that has used it in the past 40 years.
Under the law, firing squads will be a backup method if lethal injection drugs aren't available.
Utah and other states have struggled to keep up their inventories as European manufacturers opposed to capital punishment refuse to sell the components of lethal injections to U.S. prisons.

Over the weekend I watched Geraldo's show about the Lacy Peterson's (sp?) murder by her husband Scott, & I was disgusted when he said that CA has over 700 (!) criminals on death row & that they won't be executed, they will appeal until they die of old age instead. His way of dealing w/ that was to get rid of the death penalty altogether. MY solution is to stop the continuous appeals & get the executions started!

The is “So?” is:
“Utah uses the firing squad because they believe that a sinner must atone for his sins by shedding his own blood.”
But they rarely actually do that, and don’t as their primary method, causing great doubt that is their motivation for allowing it, but not requiring.
Why are we dependent on European manufacturers for these drugs in the first place? There are no American companies which supply these items??? How did that situation arise??? —

The Constitution doesn't "allow" capital punishment, what it does is accept that it is already a legitimate form of punishment & simply put limits on how it can be used by preventing it being done in a cruel or unusual manner (8th Amendment).
Not only that, the Double Jeopardy Clause in the 5th Amendment says, "...nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb...". What does the "...or limb... phrase mean? Could it mean that the Founders consider castration to be a legit form of punishment? Nothing was added to the Constitution by accident, so it had to have a purpose for being there -- every word of it.

Geraldo said on his Saturday show that executions are incredibly expensive, & that it is cheaper to just let prisoners die in prison of old age.
He was probably looking at it from an anti-death penalty bias, but I am curious: is it TRUE? And if it is, could the reason be all of the appeals that are done by inmates & their lawyers?
Why can’t we simply execute the prisoner after his or her being found guilty in court? Give them ONE appeal, maybe, but IMHO, execute the SOB & get it over with.
Two items about that: first, the good news, that nobody on the Gilmore firing squad noticed any difference at all.
Uh...second, the bad: that Gilmore's brother said he found five holes in the shirt. Hmm...
Don't waste perfectly good body parts. Anesthesia, remove all useful organs, drain all blood and return remains to the appropriate party for disposal.

Don’t look at it as a firing squad, look at it as extreme lead poisoning.
I’ve never fired a blank round bigger than .22cal. I’ve noticed that even the minor recoil of a .22 is diminished when the round is a blank. Does anyone know if there is markedly less recoil with a .30 cal blank round?
Pharmaceutical companies don’t want to be named as codefendants in law suits to stop executions.
A quick execution method is always a painless method. Anesthesia would be just a useless fuss and money wasting.
Those execution drugs must have been invented solely for luring money from the public.
Bang.....Dead.....Done.
