I remember reading back pages news items about the results of at least two newspapers who actually went back and counted all the ballots in Florida themselves. Their results were not publicized widely because Bush won that contest.
IIRC, they performed a variety of “recounts” under a series of different rules and conditions. Gore only won one of those simulations, and it was under conditions the Gore camp didn’t even ask for in their court filings.
(And a reminder... when the unhinged left complains about courts stealing an election, it was the Gore camp that started the legal challenges - the Bush camp’s response was basically to force Florida to follow the law and not make up rules as they went along.)
