Mr G did some work for Sam in the early 90’s. As a studio owner, we sometimes had a hard time getting paid.... and this was one of those times. After a number of conversations and promises and then the refusal to answer calls for what was really a very small amount of money, I finally sent them a letter stating.....
“Failure to pay the bill by (a date within 2 weeks) constitutes permission for (our studio) to use any and all materials in our possession in any way we so desire.”
All of a sudden I got a call back!!! Mrs. Sam, (his manager) was furious and made the announcement she would never work with us again (like I need more deadbeat clients) and all kinds of threats, but she did in fact pay the waaaay overdue bill. With the check cashed, she demanded I send them their property. I was happy to announce we had absolutely nothing of theirs in our possession.
We were at different places at the wrong time!
I went to many a local band dance just dying for someone to ask me to dance!!!
what a great story....Tnx
the band is playing "You've lost that loving feeling'......
You betcha, Virg!
DUDE ! thanx...heck of a site.
Was it the DVD, or at one of the select theaters? I can't wait until it comes out!
🎸🎶
Theaters. It’s a pretty amazing story. All the great music that went through those guys hands.
Saw Archie Bell and the Drells at the Bamboo Hut on Galveston Beach in 1967. Seemed like they did “The Tighten Up” about 20 times. Archie sang/spoke, the Drells did moves ala the Temptations. Real music was provided by the back-up group, The TSU Tornadoes (Texas Southern U).
Saw Roy Head there that summer also. He did a medley of his hit, “Treat Her Right.”
No, dear. THIS was when black music WAS music :) :

Lucky you. Part of the fun with ‘Tighten Up’, was the way the performance was slowly layered out, instrument by instrument, by way a musician hears it. That layered approach added to the anticipation, the building of excitement toward the end, with all strings a-strummin.
Please add me to the Modern Music ping list!
Play it, Steve!
You’ve been added :)
Thanks!
