A 2008 ban on new fast-food restaurants in South L.A. has failed to cut the obesity rate, a Rand study says

Seven years ago, Los Angeles made national headlines with a novel attempt to reduce obesity in South L.A. by banning new fast-food restaurants.

But a new study found the effort has not achieved its intended goal.

A Rand Corp. report released Thursday says that from 2007 to 2012, the percentage of people who were overweight or obese increased everywhere in L.A., but the increase was significantly greater in areas covered by the fast-food ordinance, including Baldwin Hills and Leimert Park.

The study also found fast-food consumption went up in South L.A. as well as across the county during that time.

For the most part, it seems that poor people are fat and wealthier people are in better shape. I wonder if one causes the other or they’re just related in some way.

If you have the self-control to stop when you know you've had enough, you also have the self-control to succeed in life.

Why don’t they put people in camps and starve them, they’ll lose weight then.

Where do you use your food stamp card? How do you know I wasn't in the meat business for 30 years and pimps used to come in my store with a bag of food stamps and ask for 50 cents on the dollar? Why? Because I was likely to have an account set up through the Department of Agriculture where I can deposit food stamps in the account(along with my special deposit number issued to me by the DOA)....oh wise one.

Oh wise one....How many beef sales did you have from the back of a box freezer truck? (after running a full page three color, three day ad in the local paper first, one that was called a "Barn Burner"....but I'm sure you know all about that.) I know a guy who rented the truck for a day and sold 5 pound boxes of beef patties and strip steaks out of the truck for a one day sale! All legal and yes,he could accept food stamps. The very NEXT DAY after he deposited a few grand in food stamps the Feds were in his store wanting to know why he deposited so much at once. You come off like a pompous jackass. Speaking of innocent child I gotta run,my grand kids are coming over this morning.
