Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is calling for an investigation into the arrest of a college student with Chicago ties who was shown in a photo with a bloody face as he was held down by an officer.
Charlottesville General District Court records show that Martese Johnson is charged on two counts: obstruction of justice without force, and public swearing or intoxication.
The Alcoholic Beverage Control agent who made the arrest Wednesday morning, listed in court records as J. Miller, said in the arrest report that Johnson "was very agitated and belligerent."
A statement from a group calling itself "Concerned Black Students" claims the arrest of Johnson was unprovoked and extreme.
"The brutish force used resulted in his head and bodily injuries," the group said in a statement. "His treatment was unprovoked as he did not resist questioning or arrest."
Johnson, whose Twitter page identifies himself as a Kenwood Academy High School graduate from Chicago, did not immediately return an email seeking comment. McAuliffe's office issued a statement asking state police to investigate "the use of force in this matter."
The ABC issued a statement saying that "uniformed ABC Agents observed and approached" an unidentified individual "after he was refused entry to a licensed establishment" around 12:45 a.m. at an area of bars and restaurants near campus known as "the corner."
The ABC said the unnamed individual received injuries while being arrested and was treated at a local hospital before being released.
A photograph provided to The Associated Press by a witness shows Johnson lying on the ground with blood streaming down his face. The Concerned Black Students group said Johnson required 10 stitches.
The ABC said the agents involved with the arrest are being restricted to administrative duties while a state police investigation is underway.
ABC agents in Charlottesville have been accused of heavy-handed actions in the past.
The state of Virginia reached a $212,500 settlement last year with a UVA student who was arrested after her purchase of water was mistaken for beer.
Elizabeth Daly fled in terror outside a Charlottesville supermarket in April 2013 when her vehicle was swarmed by state ABC agents who mistook her just-purchased carton of sparkling water for beer.
Daly was charged with eluding police and assaulting a police officer after her SUV grazed two of the agents. The arrest provoked a public outcry, and the charges were dropped.
It was the Governor’s storm troopers who did it.
The interesting thing is that he does have a bump on the top of the forehead, a very small one. But it bled. So it looks like he was beat up. But when you see his mug shot you see that he wasn’t “beat up.”
Did he fight the cops? The security camera will tell the tale. He was drunk and belligerent before the cops came along, trying to shout his way in a club he was too young to be in. Then the ABC cops pulled him out of the club doorway to talk to him.
So yeah, if you’re drunk and try and fight a cop you probably will get some scratches.
The guv of VA is a democrat operative stooge for the globalist elites. He is treacherous and whatever is coming in VA will be so deceitful as to be astonishing.
The Governor will have to thrown his agents under the bus. That won’t make him popular with his agents
Looks like he tried to take a bite outta the sidewalk.
All Terry cares about is pleasing his Party Bosses.
They could do worse to him- and his family- than any State cop.
He will wear the scar like a badge of Honor! Hes One of The Guys...now!
"The brutish force used resulted in his head and bodily injuries," the group said in a statement.
Doesn't look as bad as what Rachael Jeantel described as "just a whoop ass".
“... the arrest of Johnson was unprovoked ...” Typical, L4B’s boys start with a lie, then run with it. He and his racist regime are teaching them well don’tchaknow.
Scalp wounds bleed a lot. I’ve seen 1/4 inch lacerations where the patient looked like he was attacked by an axe murderer....
the infamous photographs of muslim revelers cutting their scalps during some bizarre ritual give’s a lot of evidence of that phenomenon
The cellphone video I’ve seen doesn’t show what precipitated the student being put on the sidewalk by the ABC cops. He’s seen bleeding from the head gash and screaming over and over again at the white ABC cops handcuffing him, “You ******** racists!”
The example used in the article of Charlottesville police’s tactics is a young white woman. Therefore, race shouldn’t be the concern.
Hell, my old man gave me worse than that upon the occasions of my misbehavior at school. Glad now that he did.
More VA ABC insanity.
But the victim is black, so most FReepers will laugh & play. Not like it’s a dog or anything ...
ABC = A Beatin’ Comin’
What I don’t understand, is that this sort of thing is very, very bad for business in that area. In a college town, there is sort of an unwritten agreement between the police and the business owners (i.e., bar owners)to keep the peace, but also to keep it a bit loose. I wonder how many times this kid was told to knock it off and go home before this happened (it might be none, or it might be several times). That’s the part that is never on video.
Oh, blah, blah, blah.
