My wife knows I love Santana's music so when we saw his autobiography at Sam's one day, I knew that was in my stocking for Christmas. So I've been reading it, nearly all the way through 544 pages, and I have a few comments, see below.
His tome is actually pretty entertaining, overall. Lots of insight into his past, his family life and how he makes his music. I have enjoyed it. Like I indicated, the dude is typical Liberal celebrity material in his feelings about society. I do have major issues with his attitude about my beautiful America, but it is what it is. The man is a lib, through and through, but he seems like a good dad, and he is one of my musical heroes.
OK, what say ye FReepers? Anybody else take a dip in the pool of "The Universal Tone" and what do you think?
Great Great Music and talent. I don’t want to know any more.
I appreciate his music and it gets me recharged some days.
Santana Shaman was a great album...
Anyone who worships Che is dead to me.
Figures. I can’t argue with any of that. It is easy to think the world should be this way or that way from a nice house in Marin. Overlooking the mountains and the city.
I cannot fault you for that. Not a molecule’s worth. I agree.
Don’t buy then :)
For real, it will make you nuts!
When my husband was stationed on the DMZ, he sent me tapes of himself singing and playing guitar. That’s my idea of a musical hero. I like Santana, but there’s nothing heroic about being a musician.
Nope, but anyone who knocks the man after https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqZceAQSJvc is missing something.
I agree. I had to know, you know? I had to read it. Didn’t change my feelings about doodly, but it was insightful.
That is the truth, from my heart.
I ran into carlos a few times at a church U once attended regularly
his wife and kids were regulars..he not so much
he has somehing he calls the Electric Shrine...in his house. I saw a photo of it bit cant tell you what it was...
I saw him on the Supernatural tour and it was a magical evening.
Funny thing about what you posted, he mentions it in the book. Jerry Garcia had slipped him a hit of mescaline and he ate it. The an hour later was told it was time to hit the stage. He imagined his geetar was a magical snake and it was breathing into his mouth.
Drugs, good drugs, nothing like it :)
Wow, really? Would you be willing to take a bullet for Fidel Castro? Rumor has it he can play a harmonica..........
Yeah, he actually mentions that in the book. That is where he stores all his guitars and recordings of his heroes.
I’m really conflicted about Carlos. He’s a musical genius and his music means a great deal to me, but I loath his politics. I’m thankful he didn’t wear his politics on his sleeve in the early years and that allows me to tolerate his classic music.
Easy there big ‘un, I’d shoot Fidel on sight.
Carlos, not so much. Fidel can’t jam on a PRS.
Welcome to music fanhood :)
I’ve seen a slightly different story about that from him. But it did include that they had to go on stage much earlier than he’d thought he would.
Oh well, “anyone who can remember the sixties wasn’t there”.
hes got the pentatonic scales down pretty well
I don’t want to slight em...I just think he might be a bit..over rated as a musician.
I dont know how deeply he goes into his childhood in the book but at least one incident form that period. was truly ugly
I can knock the man "after" but would have loved to have been in the audience at that event.
Unfortunately I had a job at that time that prevented me from attending......
