Is It Time for the Jews to Leave Europe?
The Atlantic.com ^ | April 2015 Issue | Jeffrey Goldberg

For half a century, memories of the Holocaust inoculated the Continent against overt anti-Semitism. That period has ended—the recent fatal attacks in Paris and Copenhagen are merely the latest in a mounting tide. Today, right-wing fascist strains of Jew-hatred are merging with a new threat from radicalized Islamists, confronting Europe with a crisis, and its Jews with an agonizing choice.

Why not? I’d say it’s time to leave every single nation and move to Israel, since the world just doesn’t seem to care about Jewish lives.

Seems to me that most of the anti-Semitic hatred is coming from the left and the left's support for all thing Muslim (proxy anti-Semitism).

Right-wing Europeans (there aren't many of them) have consistently been strong supporters of Israel and strongly against the elimination of European culture, caused by immigrant Muslims who refuse to integrate into European society.

If the author is confusing skin heads with right wing ideology, then he grossly over-estimates their influence.

Right. And when they up-stakes, they can call in all the loans they’ve made to the same jerks who are chasing them out. :)

There is a political aspect to this, at least in the short term. If all the European Jews were to take Aliyah, the political balance in Israel would almost certainly tip towards the liberal parties, and that would be the end of Likud as a political force in Israel. In short, the European Jews would avoid European anti-Semitism, move to Israel, and then basically hand over Israel to the Muslims, and that would be the end of both Israel and them.

Ironically, while Jews likely no longer are welcomed in Europe, what Israel should do is create a “second Israel”, an alternative place to Israel that is like another Israel.

What leaps to mind is to establish a religious, cultural and economic capital in a nation that is a friend to Israel, and in the process to help that poor country develop.

Specifically, South Sudan. Having broken away from Muslim North Sudan, South Sudan is Christian and Animist, and in past Israel has shown a willingness to help the South Sudanese improve their lot, which is profoundly appreciated by them.

To start, the Israelis could build a new city there, teaching the local people how to build and providing a lot of employment. Then work with the government to improve how its government works, with lots of technical advice on how to stimulate entrepreneurial development. The Israelis are also masters of agribusiness in a desert environment, so could quickly turn the country into a breadbasket, able to export food as well, after developing its water resources.

Some of the Orthodox are hesitant to embrace the idea of Israel, so this could also provide them an opportunity as well, a second home.

And, as a fundamental part of this, the Israelis could also significantly enhance the national security of South Sudan against the hostile North. Protecting themselves as they protected the South Sudanese.

Putting all your eggs in one basket? If—maybe that should be “when”—Iran has nuclear weapons, a large part of the population of Israel could be wiped out with a few bombs. (Maybe the Iranians will spare Jerusalem because of the Dome of the Rock.) Your odds of being alive 15 years from now may be better elsewhere.
