I’m surprised the stones haven’t been covered with graffiti yet.

There is a reason the Romans wiped them out.

That’s not the Spinal Tap reference I was expecting on this thread. Well played! :)

Stonehenge was one of the most disappointing places I ever visited.

Why was that? Just not that impressive up close?
To: beaversmom
You couldn’t get near it-—there were fences all around it to keep the Travelers(Gypsies) out.
We parked across the street at a tourist trap rest stop and then walked through an underpass (under a busy road) and just stood there and looked, went back trough the underpass, bought souvenir postcards, and left.

I’m with you. The actual place is a big let down compared to the pictures of it.

The idiots, as usual, ruin it for everyone else....very common and very sad....fence the thing off, no one gets to within 5 feet of the stones....walk along and look through a fence...PATHETIC...

The fact that they let multitudes of people inside the circle every solstice kills me. As a tourist there in 2006, we had to stay on the other side of the rope that encircled the henge. Pissed me off.

"They could bulldoze this site in record time."
Clearly. It only took Clark Griswold backing his car into it, to knock the whole thing down.

For me too. I got there and said: "I thought it would be bigger than that."
