The Grateful Dead’s three-night farewell shows don’t seem like they’re shaping up to be a great time for the band’s most dedicated followers. Over the weekend, we reported that tickets for the event were being scalped for as high at $10,000. And now, Chicago’s police and fire departments have decided not to let Deadheads camp out or park overnight on the land in front of Soldier Field. Earlier this year, a petition circulated around asking the venue to waive their usual policy. “We took this seriously and did not want to dismiss it,” Luca Serra, a spokesman for Soldier Field, told The Chicago Tribune. “All of us came to the conclusion that this is an exceptional event, but that does not exempt the fact we put safety first … And staying overnight can be a recipe for the unforeseen. The venue expects around 60,000 – 70,000 people will be in attendance each night.
Good. The last thing Chicago needs is even more smelly unwashed drug addled losers hanging around the loop.

“Trips? Trips? Trips?”
Of course, they also sell loose joints at these concerts...hopefully not cigarettes, though!
Molly, yes, loosies, no.
What a smelly mess this will be.
Will there be a hologram Jerry Garcia?
“Will there be a hologram Jerry Garcia?”
WOAH, DUDE! Can’t ‘cha see him?
What did the Deadhead say when he ran out of drugs: Man this music sucks!
PS I do miss the Jerry Garcia Band
“What a long, strange trip this has been.” Literally.
WHAT! No camping? Not likely to stop the OWS crowd. Now, the 60+ year olds that never grew up———————. Maybe they’ll just stay at chez obama overnight. Or penny pritzker could always put them up. Does billy boy asshat ayres have rooms to let?
The Bobby and Phil need money shows.
Drug addled buffoons. Boring music.
Bank.
I went to two Grateful Dead concerts Nassau Coliseum, NY in ‘73 and ‘74. You got your moneys worth— they played for long concerts. Not the same without Jerry— then again they’re getting too damn old. Give it up already—which I guess they are for big payoff.
YOU know ... political protests and all that
We just do it in underwear (gasp) and smoking joints on the sly in between swigs of Jack Daniels
They probably have tons of money to spend, that Chicago could reap some profits from .... but nn-oooooo
With some musicians, once you've heard one version of one of their songs, that's enough. With other singer-songwriters - Paul Simon, Bob Marley, Steve Goodman, Jerry Garcia, and a dozen or so other I could name - I'll stop and listen each time I hear them sing the same song a different way.
Let Paul Simon sing The Boxer again, or Marley sing No Woman, No Cry, or Garcia and The Dead sing Ripple, and it's I'm hearing the song for the first time.
Problem solved.
How many deadheads does it take to change a lightbulb?
None, they just let it burn out and follow it around for 40 years.
