I owed two Dobermans at one time and I’m surprised that someone on here hasn’t verbally attacked them. Their training was very important to us AND TO THEM. But you can see even with the “ankle biter” type dogs, people see no need to train them as it’s the dogs that walk the people not the other way around.
How many people here remember the Reagans walking their dog or the obozo’s???? No, the Reagans didn’t walk the obozos...but someone should! I’m sure everyone gets the point - the little dogs dragged the first ladies across the lawns. Why did no one knowledgeable correct the situation? Now that the obozo dogs are larger, you don’t see anyone walking them.
How would you like to be the one to be the pooper scooper? Left to them, I’m sure they couldn’t care less but thank goodness there are custodians to see that the s**t doesn’t pile up outside as fast as it does inside!!!
The wife and I had a Doberman we named Sadie; the smartest dog I’ve ever had. We took her training and socialization very seriously. We never tired of teaching her stupid pet tricks. She could master just about everything we threw at her in a single day. I still miss her.
She could swim better than any dog I’ve known. Six foot swells on Lake Michigan wouldn’t faze her.
Outside the home she was as friendly and sociable as you could imagine. When properly introduced to her you had a friend and protector for life.
God help you if you were a stranger (to her) trying to enter her residence, be it our home, her travel kennel or a hotel room. She had a protective streak a mile long and three miles wide.
We limit ourselves to “shelter” dogs now. I doubt I’ll ever have another dog as capable as Sadie.
