I've always wondered why people want pit bulls as pets. A golf buddy of mine has had three pit bulls and they have either bitten a member of his family or neighbors or attacked a stranger walking by his house on the sidewalk. Very unpredictable. Vise grip-like jaws that you can't pry off of a victim. He ended up having to sell one of them and putting one of them down. The county put the third one down as a result of a lawsuit he lost when the stranger sued him. Not sure why it took him three times to realize they were not good family pets but he eventually learned the hard way and never bought another pit bull.

On the other hand, I have owned four Rottweilers over 35 years. They were powerful dogs but gentle in their demeanor. We never had any experience with them attacking or biting. Of course, we trained them and they took commands like they understood English. We kept all of them in a block fenced yard so they didn't get out. But I used to run daily with every one of them and never had any problems on the road with them except for other dogs growling or lunging at them. I kept them on a short leash to avoid confrontations.

I know these views are based on anecdotal evidence, but I think that pit bulls deserve the reputation they have but Rottweilers not so much.

Here’s a thought for you and your friend. If your friend had three dogs (of ANY breed) that each attacked someone, perhaps your friend should NOT own a dog because he doesn’t have a clue how to train a dog!

Be thankful HE did not also own a Rotti, or he might have been facing manslaughter charges for his dog KILLING someone.

Don’t blame the breed alone. Some people should just not have dogs; he is one of them! He should just stick to golfing.
