When I was a kid, they flooded Fallon Field (Boston area) and we skated on it almost all winter long (some warm spells, as I remember)
I haven't seen that kind of continual freeze until this year ... now that I'm too old to enjoy it ... but we had fun times

I’ve lived in SW Pa, Northern WV panhandle for the last 40 or so years and I have not seen ponds and rivers freeze over to skate on until this year
