According to NOAA's Great Lakes Surface Environment Analysis (GLSEA) the record for total Great Lakes ice coverage was set in 1979 with 94.7% coverage. Last year's winter almost broke that record with 92.2% and is currently sitting in second place.
Just a few days ago the ice coverage sat at 60%. Today that number has jumped to 76.6% based on yesterday's analysis due the recent cold the area has been receiving.
Their forecast for the next 24 hours is for that coverage to jump to 82.3%. This is within 10% of second place.
Some long range weather forecasts I have seen for the next two weeks indicates that the cold temperatures will stay entrenched in the area. I'm of the opinion that the record of 94.7% will be broken.
What say you?
Don’t you know that warming causes cooling? I’m going to boil some water so it’ll freeze.
Warm globally, cool locally!
Don;t worry — it’s not really that cold. These temperatures will be adjusted.

I am truly fortunate to get a ping from the most revered Mr. Hydrazine. Thank you.

If there is anyone who knows about global warming, it’s the Canadians!
All I know is that, with three-plus-feet of snow on the ground and storms stacked up out to Seattle just waiting to clobber us some more (I’m in Western Mass), I’ve had just about all the “Global Warming” I can take.
You got that right- Sunday morning here in Toronto it was colder than Mars.
I’m in Nashville, and we’re bracing for those subzero temperatures. We haven’t gone below 1 degree for a low in 19 years. Frightening last night when the Weather Channel briefly predicted minus 13 (!) but since altered it back.

Just yesterday I noticed that Burlington Bay, and actually about as far as I could see out onto Lake Ontario from the Skyway (bridge from Hamilton to Burlington, ON over Burlington Bay / Hamilton Harbour) there was ice cover. I don’t recall ever seeing ice cover out there before in the 18 years I’ve lived here.
I’m reading Joe Bastardi shredding Bill Nye on Twitter. LMAO
How many idiots have tried to walk/ski/drive across Lake Erie this year?
