Louis Jourdan who crafted a Hollywood acting career in the footsteps of fellow dapper Frenchmen Maurice Chevalier and Charles Boyer and is best remembered for the musical Gigi and as the villain in James Bond pic Octopussy, has died at 93. According to his friend and biographer Olivier Minne, he died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills.
Jourdan offered a certain effortless charm that worked equally well in light heroic roles and more sinister ones.
He was the last French figure of the Hollywood golden age. And he worked with so many of the greatest actors and directors, said Minne, who is working on a documentary and a book about Jourdan.....

I'm posting this because I'd like to know if any Freepers have seen some of the more obscure pictures listed. I'd especially like to see the "near-classic The Happy Time, about a boy coming of age in a French-Canadian family." I've never heard of that movie, but it sounds charming.
This piece discusses how Jourdan was replace in the weird, time travel musical "On a Clear Day" (you can see forever), but I think it was he in the movie version with our good friend Barbara Streisand. I remember seeing that in the movies and I'd love to see it again, but it seems like it's been excised from the collective memory. Even Variety doesn't mention the flick!
The title song was a huge hit, what's become of this movie?
Anyway, thanks for indulging me. RIP Louis Jourdan.

That was another gentleman, the late Italian/Frenchman Yves Montand, who was in the film version of “On A Clear Day...” opposite Streisand.

I saw him live in GiGi about 20 years ago. He was playing the part that Maurice Chevalier made famous in the movie. The man oozed french class. Not sure how he was in real life.

Adrienne Barbeau was an actress? I thought she was a professional game show celebrity, like Brett Sommers, Arlene Francis and Jaye P. Morgan.

I recently saw an episode of The Naked City with Brett Somers in a bit part. Coincidentally, Jack Klugman was a guest star.

I recall her from the 70s' TV show, Maude.

He married his childhood sweetheart in 1946 and was married to her until she died in 2014.
They had one child, a son, who died of a drug overdose at the age of 30.

Oh, yeah. I think our tv had that show on exactly once, as no one bothered to change the channel after "The Jeffersons". I heard that voice, and said never again. Not only a man's voice, but a mean man's voice.

My problem was not with A.B., but with B.A. (Beatrice Arthur). I don't tune in for headlights, though in that era there were numerous choices that did not require you to put up with Beatrice Arthur, everything from Charlie's Angels to Logan's Run (TV show, Heather Manzies).

I felt the same way but after she died I heard B.A. was a veteran so after that I gave her a pass.
