GAFFNEY, S.C. - No, the Gaffney Peachoid isn't covered up because it's cold. The water tower is draped in a protective curtain as crews work to give it a facelift.
Last year, work began to give it a makeover.
Workers prepped the giant peach-shaped landmark by putting up a support system that allowed them to hang the curtain safely for sandblasting and painting.
Now that the cover is up, they will start the make it look shiny and new.
The project is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
Stuckeys is all there was through SC and GA on our way from WNC to Daytona Beach mostly on two-lane blacktops. And Burma-Shave signs! Hated Stuckey’s.
Stuckey’s was worth stopping for a pecan log. Not much else.
Perhaps my standards were not real high, but I seem to remember that the restrooms were always clean.
And they had those towels for your hands that were on an endless roll...never could figure out that one.
It never ended...just went on and on...
Ay Caramba!

Oh wow, I remember those style restroom towels... the local diner my family would go to had those... and the soap dispenser at the sink you twisted the knob and it shaved a bar of soap and deposited soap powder in your hand below... I can still smell it.
Ping
I sure remember that alright.
Some of the comments are funny.
