19-year-old Alecia Faith Pennington has spent her life so sheltered by her Christian fundamentalist parents that now, as a young adult, she is finding it almost impossible to prove to the government that she actually exists.
In a video uploaded to YouTube and quickly going viral, Pennington documents the various ways her parents have managed to prevent leaving even a single speck of evidence to help her gain an official identity or to prove that she is a United States citizen. For starters, they gave birth to her at home, and declined to get a birth certificate or social security number. She was then homeschooled, and the family never took her to a hospital or doctors office.

I miss the place, I miss things like going to parties where Hadda Brooks was a friend of the hosts, and would always get around to playing and singing for us.
Remember that many political folks recently removed from Europe would also like to deprive her of her citizenship by way of being born on U.S. soil. They would probably rather that Americans pay large yearly fees to remain U.S. citizens.
See my link upthread.
Says she went to a doctor at 9 years old, then later on, an orthodontist.
I’m thinking maybe the parents paid cash.
Also, the family examples upthread are from a time where exhaustive documentation wasn’t required.
My own granny was born here, never had a birth cert or drove, she may have had a soc sec card because she worked at the post office during the depression ...
She had a bank account and house jointly with my grampa.
The city had decent bus and trolley routes so she got by that way.
Plus my grampa had a car.
Back then and up to my generation’s age, they would accept baptism cert as proof of age for a driver license.
A different time...
She can vote all day long if she says she is a democrat.
Why is she worried? It is not like anyone gets deported anymore....
I would have thought the girl could subpoena the parents and/or other witnesses who knew her at birth or during infanthood to serve as sufficient eyewitnesses to her parentage whether or not they were hostile or otherwise uncooperative.

That's quite a "gift", one that I think most 19 year-olds would NOT appreciate.
The following info might be interesting. Also notice the obvious sentiment in comments following the information.

She may think she is off the grid, but the NSA has records of her movements, her thoughts, and her activities.
ONLY if she wants to run for President in 17 years as a Democrat.

The comments on the article are all sorts of liberal bigot rants against homeschooling, organized religion (Christianity in particular), even anti-breeder rhetoric “There should be a certification test before people are allowed to procreate.... some people are not fit to be parents, such as these fundie nutjobs” “Agreed, plus fundamentalists should never be allowed to have children.”

It appears to be a viral subject on the internet. nearly 3,000 matches on google of recent (last 24 hours) vintage.
I could find ‘her’ twitter account but so far no reputable new agency has covered the story, just the viral blogging items that have been reposted.
You would think that a paternity test could be forced through the courts.
No dumber than liberal fundamentalists
This is an issue in other countries as well. My church supports a mission in the Dominican Republic, in a community where the residents are Haitian refugees in the DR. To the DR government, the community and the people barely exist.
Children who are born there don't have birth certificates or government IDs, so they can't go to school. There are babies who could be adopted, and nice Christian people in the U.S. who would like to adopt them, but since they don't legally exist, "nothing can be done."
This is a perfect illustration of the "global culture of indifference": there is a need, the need could be met ... but the bureaucratic gatekeepers, *shrug*, can't be bothered to resolve a paperwork glitch.
The closest thing I have is finding the iron suspension and wheel steel rings to an old buckboard wagon in the woods behind the house....interesting, but hardly as neat
Ha—you’re right, she’s probably been watched more than the average teenager.
But if she has four older siblings who have had to go through the same process for the same reasons, why aren’t they helping her?
There’s more to the story here, whatever it is.
So you’re for the crush of anchor babies we’ve got here—and all their relatives who crashed the country because of them?
Of course, given that she has American parents, there’s no comparison.
You’re confusing the natural born argument.
“The U.S. State Department has procedures for establishing U.S. citizenship for abandoned children with parents of unknown citizenship.”
Well I’m glad to hear that. Now, I can’t remember if I read that entire article that I saw years ago, but you’d like to think that if you know that the Government of California and Los Angeles would be aware of it, or at least that a reporter for the LA Times could have found out about it and informed them.
