Adapting a worldwide phenomenon like Fifty Shades of Grey into a film can be a huge risk. There are millions of fans to appease, an authors own vision to consider, and a taboo subject to navigate for the masses.
But for director Sam Taylor-Johnson, all of those risks motivated her.
I knew it was going to be an enormous challenge, Taylor-Johnson told The Daily Beast. Its only her second feature filmher first being 2008s Nowhere Boy, which chronicled the early life of John Lennonand the subject was relatively unfamiliar territory for her. But thats partly why I did it.

Let me understand what the Clerisy is telling me. Mommy porn and the porn on Lena Dunham's GIRLS = socially acceptable to be celebrated. Porn guys like = at best keep it to wherever you are watching it.

My understanding is that the sex in this story revolves around choking and BDSM.

I’m hoping that this movie is one major FLOP.

I nailed the sex and more chicks than a commercial hen house.
The director is engaged in fantasy...

It won’t be. Last report I saw said presales was over $60 million for opening weekend. It’s probably going to be the highest grossing February release ever.

The director is engaged in fantasy... This director also is 47 and is married to a 24 year old pin up boy actor. She definitely doesn't have an, uh, traditional view of sexual relations.

Something like guys being called "immature". My response is "Guys will always be considered immature, as long as women get to define 'maturity' as 'Acting like women want you to'"

as long as women get to define 'maturity' as 'Acting like women want you to'" Ah, but deciphering "like they want you to" is the work of a lifetime.

Let me make it simpler: if women like it, then it's good. If only guys like it, then it's nasty. Just to add to my prior posting, as an example, let's consider a movie about a man, a successful 40-year-old stockbroker, who goes to Jamaica, finds a gorgeous 20 year old girl with which he has wild, passionate sex, and falls in love with her.
Women would find the movie "creepy" and look down on any man approving of such behavior. They certainly would not go to see it, especially with their husbands.
But switch the sexes, and have it be about a 40-something WOMAN and her boy-toy, and you have the successful How Stella Got Her Groove Back

Sam Taylor-Johnson Good Lord! A hyphenated woman with an androgynous first name ... Nothing good can come of this.
