Most men today don't want their wives to be homemakers raising the children. They expect their wives to provide a second income.

It is a double edge sword. If you have children, one income rarely provides for a family, at least not comfortably or in a safe area. Yet, If you have children, it can be damn inconvenient to not have one caregiver without another job.

Very true. The only other option is for the parents to work split shifts and take turns caring for the children. That’s exhausting though (I remember).
