Posting Video (HTML Command Vanity)
Posted on 02/06/2015 4:54:01 PM PST by goldstategop
Ok, could someone list the command to embed a video in a post or reply?
Some sites do this automatically. I need HTML help here.
The basics cover posting links and pictures, which I'm familiar with.
How does one post a video from say, YouTube on here?
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: html; vanity; video
Navigation: use the links below to view more comments.
first 1-20, 21-40, 41-52 next last
Guidance would be much appreciated.

I dont believe Ive ever seen a video “embedded” on a page in any thread here.
Now that yotube is switching file formats to html 5 video...that may changes I dunno

Don’t think you can embed a video here. The best you can do is post a link.
To: goldstategop
That depends. Is it a video montage of shirtless Putin pics?

Ok. After all, YouTube does have a share video link as well as an embed code.
With broadband these days, playing video should be as convenient as posting text and pictures.

(there wasn't much conversation about it.)

I mean directly displaying the video on the page and all you have to do is click the button to play it.
Its not quite the same but I guess it would do.

When you’re looking at the video on yt website, click on Share then Embed.
It will present an edittable field with the HTML in it, highlighted.
Just copy and paste from there.
I dunno if FR allows it, you could try it I presume...

Oops, no, it uses the iframe tag.
FR don’t allow that.

Thanks, I suspected as much.
Ok. So we can’t use the iframe command on here.

Looks like all you can do is include the link to the video.

I think the only "video" posted and visible in-thread heretofore has been as an animated GIF. (which is actually just a short series of pictures layered atop each other). Probably a bandwidth preservation thing.
ZOT!

Yours is cool.
There are some limits to what is possible to post on here today.

Either one just be nuttin’ but a link (a little HTML) as far as FR’s server sees.
Whatever server the link references is the server doin’ the hosting of the gif or video, etc.
Of course, both of them use the cpu of the user’s machine to play the video or gif in the user’s browser.
the gif just downloads once and loops endlessly.
The video... the browser keeps reading packets from youtube.com or whoever is hosting the video file... then rendering the video frame by frame on the user’s machine.

GIFs will work.
What command did you use to embed it?

more or less embedded means that a video runs as though it were Pasted into the page on which it appears.
If there were an inage of a video on this page..it would have been embedded.
Some software configurations allow for embedding some don’t
It may be a choice that FREE REPUBLIC made to keep the access speed as fast as it is. It literally screams...speed wise. and embedded video might slow that access speed down. I
