the town of Karasjok, in Finnmark County, temperatures dropped to minus 45.2 degrees Celcius on Sunday. On Monday it was still minus 42 in the morning. Although all school buses stopped running, schools were still open for those who were able to get there.

- Outside temperatures will have to be much lower before we close the schools, says school administrator Petter Asbjørn Balto to NRK.

- If it is 50 below or colder, the students may choose whether or not they want to go to school, Balto says

Well at 40 below F and C, it’s all the same.

They use 5W 20 oil in all their machines. Their machines also have block heaters that they plug in at night.
I think the Fins or Norwegians invented the sauna. Maybe the hot tub too. House’s tend to be smaller with lower ceilings and lots of insulation. All house’s have some kind of central wood fired masonry heater. Windows are oriented south. People wear a lot of pure wool sweaters. They invent things like cross country skis to get around.

Try watching the NETFLIX show Lilihammer. It stars American actor Stevie Van Zant. He was also in the Sopranos and plays in the E Street Band with Bruce Sprinsteen. It is a dark comedy that takes place and is filmed on location in Norway.
My wife and I love it.

It’s kinda funny how the cold works...when we get a good cold spell, say -35F or so, everyone bundles up.

Then the next week comes along and the temperature hits 20F and the playgrounds are full of kids in t-shirts...

I wear shorts most of the year and live just North of Yellowstone Park. We have a dry cold here, not humid like the Minnehootens have...

I’ve worked outside at -43F. When you pee outside at that tempt it freezes before it hits the ground. Like peeing yellow icicles.
