Samsung is refusing to release concrete figures, but some industry experts are giving the win to Apple.
After recording the biggest quarterly profit by any company ever, Apple might have earned itself another accolade: world's largest smartphone vendor. It's clear that the iPhone maker had a bumper quarter, reporting record sales of 74.5 million smartphones. However, Samsung is only saying that it sold 95 million total handsets, of which, it says, somewhere between 71 million and 75 million (the "high 70 percent") were smartphones.
So has Apple finally beaten Samsung? It's impossible to say with absolute certainty. Samsung isn't likely to give up any more information on the topic, and analysts and industry experts are hedging their bets accordingly. Some are marking it as a dead heat while others are claiming Apple as the winner. Counterpoint Research, which polls global distributors for its figures, says the iPhone maker is definitely ahead pegging Samsung's shipments at only 73.8 million. Ben Bajarin, an analyst for Creative Strategies also gives the win to Apple (see chart above), but Strategy Analytics claims both vendors shipped 74.5 million smartphones in the fourth quarter last year.

It looks like Apple has taken over the Number One slot!
Apples iPhone 6 Success Is Mostly Androids Loss, Giving iPhone Plenty Of Room To Grow

I couldn’t care less. I honestly wish cell phones could be de-invented most days as my students completely lack the ability to put them down for even a nanosecond to actually listen to what I have to say.
Well, can’t go backwards in history. Forward is all we have. But you can thank Apple for the current state of affairs as they brought this new device to the masses. Apple is definitely to blame on that count!
Easy solution. Just prohibit the use of smartphones in your classroom. Anybody that violates that edict flunks out of your class automatically.
For a quarter. When they released a modern Iphone and one with a screen size that can finally compete with a Samsung. So they will have a nice quarter or two.
Now we will see how they do head to hear.
that’s head to head,,
Look at the graphic in the article and the last SIX QUARTERS on Samsung’s sales ... those six quarters are showing a turnaround.
Apple grabs 33% smartphone marketshare in South Korea, a historic record for foreign manufacturers in Samsungs home turf
http://9to5mac.com/2015/01/21/apple-grabs-33-smartphone-marketshare-in-south-korea-a-historic-record-for-foreign-manufacturers-in-samsungs-home-turf/
Apples marketshare in South Korea has skyrocketed in the last quarter, driven by strong demand for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, according to data by Counterpoint. Apple increased its share of sales from 15% to 33%, more than doubling its market power in one quarter.
Historically, Samsung has dominated South Korea, largely due to geographic advantages, but Apples gains now threaten the #1 spot. Apple is the first foreign smartphone company ever to surpass 20% marketshare in the region, taking the number 2 spot. Samsungs marketshare fell from 60% in November to 46% and (now third-place) South Korean LG Electronics fell to 14%.
Apple’s big iPhones score record sales in China, Japan, and South Korea

In South Korea, Samsungs home territory, Apple claimed 33 percent of the market last November, more than doubling the 15 percent share it held prior to the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. This puts it well ahead of South Korean brand LG (14 percent) and not far behind Samsung itself, whose market share slipped from 60 percent to 46 percent.
“No foreign brand has gone beyond the 20 percent market share mark in the history of Koreas smartphone industry,” said Counterpoint mobile analyst Tom Kang in a press statement. “It has always been dominated by the global smartphone leader, Samsung. But iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have made a difference here, denting the competitions phablet sales.” It’s interesting to note also that Samsung’s share of the market has slipped by 14 points while Apple’s is up by 18 an overlap that implies that Apple is actively taking sales off Samsung. A similar story is playing out in Japan, where Apple’s market share jumped from the high teens in May last year to 51 percent in November. At the same time, domestic companies’ market shares fell, with Sony the number two brand dropping from 30 percent in July to 17 percent in November.
Yeah,,, well that’s just like, your opinion man.
All you have to do is put a “slope” on the quarters prior to six quarters ago, and then put a slope on the latest six quarters. You don’t have to rely on my opinion ... just compare the two slope lines you draw yourself ... :-) ...
Wish I could. Doesn’t work that way with the administration not backing up teachers. They basically have told us that we are supposed to have a “hands off” policy on cell phones anymore.
All smartphones are nearly alike these days. I have a LG G3 and like it because the battery life is great and it came with fewer apps and the easy ability to root it (with LG’s and T-Mobiles ok with it) so I can get rid of other apps that came with the phone and also change the look of the phone with themes. My Samsung Galaxy S4 I had was difficult to root and the battery life was not so good because of the imbedded apps. Android is the best OS so there. : )
Guess this means that the $15 an hour minimum wage groups will start targeting Apple’s factories around the world... Obviously Apple earns too much money.
Kinda hard for this kind of dramatic sales to happen with something no good ... :-) ...
Dear Skeptics, Here’s How Apple Will Continue To Demolish Expectations
http://www.businessinsider.com/how-apple-will-continue-to-demolish-expectations-2015-1
Apple delivered the greatest earnings report in history on Tuesday.
That’s not hyperbole. Apple earned $18 billion in net income over the three-month period of October to December 2014. That’s more than any other company has ever earned over a three-month span.
Apple earned those mind-melting profits thanks mostly to the iPhone, which is an incredible business.
Apple sold 74.5 million iPhones, up 46% from the year prior. The iPhone generated $51 billion in revenue, giving each iPhone an average selling price of $687.
Apple is earning a HUMONGOUS amount of money. It just boggles the mind as to how a company can be this WILDLY SUCCESSFUL. Apple is obviously doing things right for their customers!
Their products generally are on par with the competitors'. Their success is in their marketing and maintaining brand loyalty.
