The History channels new miniseries, Sons of Liberty, will anger the purists and the prudes. But it will delight the swashbuckler in the rest of us. It is a big, bodacious screening with superb production values that covers the lead-up years to the American Revolution, 1765-1775. Yes, certain liberties are taken with some of the facts and events.

I’ve enjoyed this series. It makes the Brits look like HUGE A-Holes. Because they were...
agee. I liked the Disney version “Sons of Liberty” from the ‘60s.
You’re not alone in your sentiments. I watched the show too, and enjoyed it, even if it wasn’t accurate. I too asked what happened to the good people who fought a war to gain their independence from an oppressive monarchy, only to allow themselves to eventually be shackled by an oppressive Federal government. The people of this country did not take heed of the history that went before them.
American Heroes Channel, formerly Military Channel, has a series going about the Revolutionary that is also on Amazon Instant Video.

“Movie History” FWIW
Very minor (and maybe nitpicky) things I picked up on: When John Hancock says to Governor Hutchinson, “I get it!” and when Governor Hutchinson at one point says to Hancock, “Walk with me...” Those seemed like very modern inventions that did not ring true for the time. Those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.
Even with the required stubble I think you’ll enjoy it. It’s very gritty... not the usual sanitized treatment of this topic. Really fun to watch.
I agree with you. I can’t agree with most here. I thought it sucked.
Their Sam Adams was straight from “Occupy Wall Street”. There was one scene where they were talking about Sam’s father and the description was of George Bailey straight out of It’s a Wonderful Life. And he fought for the poor. No, the patriotic opposition was all about taxing businessmen. The poor had no money to tax.
Liberal crap like this make me want to hurl.
About as accurate as Disneys Johnny Tremain—with the singing Sons of Liberty and the Liberty Tree.
We have become a nation of idiots and most of them are script writers or politicians.
“the actor playing Sam Adams is about in his 30s Sam Adams was in his 50s at that time...”
Some of 50somethings can still pull of looking 30something especally wen my hair is short and I am wearing a hat covering my balding grey head.
Having said that the portral of Sam Adams was a bit off. I don’t think he was hanging in taverns swilling it down with the common people in the 1770s. Primarily the focus on Sam Adams was because the series was sponsored by Sam Adams Brewery.
There were three great line, tow of which I don’t rememeber, but the line where Daws is tempaorily capatured and the Redcoat asks him his reason for leaving Boston. His repsonse was totally honesty that he was a scout for a band of rebels set on overturning the monach, state jut brefore he overpowered the redcoat and used said RCs gun to kill another.
One major flaw at the end of the series was using a 13 star flag at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The flag had not yet been created as of this battle.
