Mother of teen killed by alleged impaired driver pleads for his capture after he bails out, disappears

A local [Albuquerque, New Mexico] woman is dealing with the unthinkable after losing her teenage son to an alleged hit-and-run drunk driver. Her grief is real, and so is the fight to get the man accused of killing her son back behind bars.
"He was almost home a hundred yards," said Penny Brown-Meira, Jonathan Brown's mother, of just how close her son was to being home when his life ended.
He never made it home. Jonathan was killed when a car swerved off Unser Road and knocked him off his skateboard. He was riding in the bike lane exactly where he was supposed to be.
Jonathan had turned 19 just three days before his death on December 30. He wanted to be a doctor.
Police say 47-year-old Luis Montiel drove away after hitting Jonathan. They found Montiel about a mile and a half away passed out in his car so loaded that police said he couldn't even stand up.
Police charged Montiel with vehicular homicide and DWI. Montiel allegedly told officers he was on hydrocodone and a seizure drug.
He posted bail and never showed up for court.
Penny says she can't understand why he didn't have electronic monitoring.
"He just basically killed my baby, and now he's out on the loose and no one knows where he is," she said. "I want him to turn himself in. Someone anyone tell us where he is so I can get justice for my baby."
If you know Montiel's whereabouts, call 242-COPS and help a grieving mother find justice for her child.
One man acts and 535 applaud.
Was not able to open and read your link. Are bondsman putting up this cash? If not, $37K is a lot of cash to toss unless you are involved in illegal activity.
I agree with you, I did not see where he is an illegal. We just had an illegal in AZ murder a store clerk. He had been convicted of a Felony and was waiting his deportation hearing. No bail they just let him out
He’s an illegal alien — yet the report does not even bother to mention this
It's New Mexico. 10-time drunk driving offenders can get bail, even if they've killed someone.
I don’t know. Further, to you and to all, Albuquerque was and is a sanctuary city. I have noted more “folks” with backpacks, and a lot more trash and broken glass in my streets. I walk.

Yeah he’ll get caught after running over some other Mother’s daughter or son or many he’ll manage to kill a whole family, which seems to happen often enough in New Mexico.
That happened here. We have a small town that is mostly Mexican with a ton of them being illegals. A little girl was hit by a car driven by one of those illegals and the search was on. He had left for Mexico. About 5 yrs later he was arrested right down the street from where he hit and killed the little girl. He had come back.
I’d assume it came from a bondsman. Typically the accused put down 10% cash or security. He may have figured he’ll only have to pay the bondsman the whole amount if they catch him and bring him back so why not flee.
Funny that you said that. I almost commented the same but thought it was just me that saw it!
