Though he's obviously in 24 hour care in Tennessee right now, he's also been honored with nominations for both Country Song of the Year (Grammy's) and Song of the Year (Oscar's). I care not a whit about awards shows, but I admit to hoping he wins them both. "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" is a tough song, but one that needed to be sung. Glad he could sing it.

Is Glen still around? He became a born-again Christian awhile back, got into some addiction problems and got out by God’s grace and then hit Alzheimers. His rough road will end in Glory.

Before he was famous, Glen did the guitar work on an album called Sunset Surf -- all instrumentals. I loved it and had it on vinyl but somehow lost track of it, and not long ago made it my mission to find it. Thank God for the internet -- I found it in Japan, although I see that Amazon has it now.

OK, I love this song, but if you’re not from Witchita and you’re not a lineman I find it hard to think you’d feel that way.

But, in all fairness, the other day I heard “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” and I really did think that might be the greatest song of all time. Certainly one of the most heartfelt and truly sad.

I always liked GLen Campbell, he is a true talent. It hurts me to see him, or anyone, suffer from Alzheimers. Although finding the cure for cancer is my main dog in the fight, I support Alzheimers research with the same zeal. Earlier this year, I helped a friend, whose mother has Alzheimers, in a fund raiser. The world is going to Hell though, but if I want a few warm moments of sanity and good feelings, Glen Campbell and Andy Williams fit the bill.

A side note: I remember Mom in 2012 watching old reruns of Andy Williams Christmas shows and she started to cry. I knew why, I felt it too, but I asked her "why?" She said, "I miss the world of Andy Williams" among othwrs. I'm sure she would feel the same if she saw the "Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour." Now I get tears when I hear songs from them two. I miss that world too.

Wichita Lineman is a hauntingly beautiful song. Of course, I love just about anything by Jimmy Webb. He studied music theory under one of my teachers at San Bernardino Valley College (Russell Baldwin), and he used to talk about how talented he was. Jimmy went there for a couple of semesters a year or two ahead of me. Small world, lol.

A Jimmy Webb song that I have always wanted to know the background of is “All My Love’s Laughter"', performed by Art Garfunkel in his “Watermark” album. It has a beautiful but hauntingly melancholy quality to it.
