Tom Brady's tale doesn't hold weight [Says sack Brady for Super Bowl if he cheated]
ESPN ^ | Jan. 23, 2015 | Ian O'Connor

Under his oversized ski cap, Tom Brady could not hide from the fact he was convicting himself in the court of public opinion. The quarterback of the New England Patriots admitted that footballs pumped up to 12.5 pounds per square inch are "a perfect fit for me," yet swore he did not notice a difference in the AFC Championship Game when most of the balls had significantly less pressure.

Brady's story Thursday was harder to believe than the story of the 199th pick in the NFL draft becoming one of the greatest players of all time...

"I would never do anything outside of the rules of play," Brady said.

But his own words told a different tale, and as soon as he was done talking, a 17-year veteran of the quarterback position, Mark Brunell, said on ESPN that he was among those who didn't believe Brady. Earlier Thursday, even before Bill Belichick seemed to be throwing his franchise player under a triple-decker bus in his own news conference, Hall of Famer Troy Aikman said on a Dallas radio station the following:

"It's obvious that Tom Brady had something to do with this."...

“Once again, it was 51 degrees at kickoff.”

Once again. YOU FALSELY REPORTED WHAT THE PROFESSOR SAID.

So some poster above has indicated the NFL has interviewed 40 people. I think it all comes down to the ball boy. If the NFL can sweat it out of him that he was ordered by the Pats to deflate the balls then we have the smoking ball inflation needle with pressure guage

or if not a potentially very good SNL skit this weekend or next. :)

Where’s the calibration sticker?

Since this is a political forum, let’s use a political analogy. Say a Democrat candidate stuffed the ballot box to ensure victory. As it turns out, he had enough votes to legitimately win. Should he still get to hold office?

I’m lousy at complex math and physics, but your basketball comparison is spot on. My buddy and I played plenty of b-ball in cold weather and yes, once outside for awhile the ball lost bounce.

Sorry. It was the chair of physics at Boston College. The original link pointed to this. That same link now points to MIT.

“The pressure loss due to the temperature alone cannot be the issue in my mind,” said BC physics professor Michael J. Naughton, after plugging temperature data into a formula that calculates pressure loss. “If the footballs were notably lower pressure, then the only way it could have happened was if someone went in and stuck a needle in the ball and let two-thirds of the gas out, which means it is now up to the NFL to follow the chain of command — but no logical physics can explain the kind of pressure loss they’re talking about."

51 degrees on field at game time wasnt “sure freezing” as your lame apology states

You're right, the field temps weren't freezing. But that doesn't discount the rest of my statement regarding playing in freezing temperatures and the likelihood of teams deflating the balls......

As I said previously, this is a case of the extreme losers (Colts) calling foul and the MSM trying to turn this into another Watergate..........

My oh My, who woulda thought the Indianapolis Colts would get their butts kicked by an under inflated football.............

11 of the 12 footballs weighed by the NFL at halftime were 2 pounds under the required weight. It wasn’t random or due to equipment failure.

If the officials were not in on it, then the ballboys deflated the balls. Did the ballboys act on their own?

In New England? Not a chance...

No big deal?

With properly aired balls, the Pats may have had trouble hanging onto the ball in the rain. They could have been down by 21 at the half? No big deal? I think the NFL has to suspend someone for the game, if for no other reason than to ensure that everyone understands that the NFL was in no way involved with this.

This matter goes to the heart of integrity in the NFL.

Pete Rose got a lifetime ban from baseball for tampering with the integrity of baseball. Something BIG will come of this...

In your scenario, a Democrat would say that the cheating didn’t matter, so he should hold the office. A Republican would say that cheating was wrong, but in the spirit of bipartisanship, he should hold the office. A conservative would say that he should be indicted, tried for fraud, and a new election held.

Does that help?

From what I have read, 11 of the 12 balls were 2psi low. That means 9.5 psi or less.

But I understand your point - they shouldn’t be penalized because they got away with it!

“Sorry. It was the chair of physics at Boston College.”

Sorry. You are the victim of another’s lies. I found where your Naughton statement is printed:

http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/01/21/how-and-when-did-the-new-england-patriots-game-balls-get-deflated/

If you click on his embedded link you actually find that Naughton supports the weather theory:

“The chair of Boston College’s physics department is backing up claims that cold weather could be the reason that some of the footballs used on the field Sunday evening during the New England Patriots’ 45-7 drubbing of the Indianapolis Colts may have been deflated.”

Once again. YOU FALSELY REPORTED WHAT THE PROFESSOR SAID.

Ok..I'm calling "shenanigans" on this one. The original link where the BC prof said cold weather could NOT have caused the deflation was this:

http://www.bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2015/01/physicist_cold_weather_couldn_t_have_deflated_patriots_footballs

Note the "couln't have" in the URL. Suddenly the headline says cold weather COULD have changed the pressure. The headline now reads: Physicist: Cold weather could have deflated Patriots’ footballs. The article has changed. The entire article is different now. I originally excerpted this from that link:

“The pressure loss due to the temperature alone cannot be the issue in my mind,” said BC physics professor Michael J. Naughton, after plugging temperature data into a formula that calculates pressure loss. “If the footballs were notably lower pressure, then the only way it could have happened was if someone went in and stuck a needle in the ball and let two-thirds of the gas out, which means it is now up to the NFL to follow the chain of command — but no logical physics can explain the kind of pressure loss they’re talking about."

All of that text is now gone. And I stand accused of false reports. I hereby accuse the BOSTON HERALD of cheating by rescinding an article that was damaging to the pats and replacing it with one trying to vindicate them.

See #154. The link you gave me shows somebody else who was able to excerpt the same paragraph just like I did. The “COULDN’T HAVE” in the original URL I posted proves to me that they changed their story. Shenanigans.

Hmmm. They deliberately lied by altering the position and statements of a renowned professor in their home town?

I have to call BS on that one.

Yes. They absolutely did. Look at the url. They changed the article but forgot to change the url. The prof was originally quoted as I excerpted. Now suddenly he’s saying there’s a lack of info. Somebody else even cited the same quote.

Who Said It?

For a little Friday fun, see if you can pass our “Who Said It: The Obama White House or New England Patriots?” quiz. Below are eight statements that refer to either DeflateGate or one of the Obama administration scandals. Can you guess who said each of the following in response?

http://toddyoung.house.gov/who-said-it

“I was shocked to learn of the news reports... I had no knowledge whatsoever of this situation until Monday morning.”

“I first learned about it from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this.”

“We learned about them through the reports... That is when we learned about them.”

“Everyone is obviously trying to figure out what happened. I was as surprised as anybody when I heard Monday morning what was happening.”

“I have no knowledge of anything, of any wrongdoing. I’m very comfortable saying that.”

“I heard on the news about this story...”

“I have questions too. There’s nobody I know that can answer the questions that I have.”

“Other than press reports, we have no knowledge of [this].”

If they didn’t change the article, then I can only conclude the physics professor is a moron.

Guy Lussac’s Law is:
P1/T1 = P2/T2
Thus P1*T2/T1 = P2

If NE filled each ball to the minimum pressure at 70 degrees F, how much pressure loss would you get going down to 45 degrees F?

P2 = 12.5 psi * 280k / 295k = 11.9 psi.

Temperature in the formula is Kelvin, not Fahrenheit. The prof is full of deflated air. A 2 psi drop was not possible, New England cheated.
